in the same terminal as a few
weeks prior, they were sullen,
staring into each other's eyes and holding
onto each other because before long,
that would no longer be an option.

on how difficult it was for them to be apart,
yet there they were,
letting it all happen again.
they said I love you a few hundred
times and they kissed a few hundred more.

it was time.
there were tears and promises
and broken hearts and kisses,
but as sue walked away, looking back
at oliver every few feet and
clutching her scrapbook to her chest,
she knew oliver had been right.

and it meant something because it was real
and it made them whole because it was real.
it hurt because it was real,
and therefore,
it would work.
because it was r e a l.
