his poetry

she reads his little poem a lot.

the paper is crinkled and thin

from how often she unfolds it,

reads it,

and folds it back.

she can't help the hot tears that

pool in her eyes

or the pounding ache

that settles in her chest.

because she's never wanted

anything

as much as she wants him with her.

and she doesn't know

if all of it

is worth the heartache.

or if she's making the right decisions

or if it will get better.

all she knows is she misses him,

and it's been days since

they last talked.

and that scares her.
