(6) He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?" (7) Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand." (8) "No," said Peter, "You shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have not part with me." (9) "Then, Lord," Simon Peter, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"

- John 13:6-9

When we're in a pickle (yes, I DID just say that), we usually turn to God first because that is what He wants us to do, right? And it isn't wrong to go to Him, that's not what I'm saying. But the thing is, we expect Him to say 'yes' every time we ask for something.

God is not a vending machine, or a magic genie, or a McDonald's Drive Thru! We can't just make an order and expect to get exactly what we asked for. When you got saved, you gave your life to Him -- that includes the plans for your life, the plans He has for you. Which means, you gave Him the authority to work in your life.

Let Him in, let Him work.

I gave you some of the whole passage, because I didn't want you to take the verse out of context. But let's take verse 7 out and look at it.

Has anyone here watched the show Supergirl before? Well in season one, she opens up to her friend, James, about how when she saw him and his girlfriend together it made her think that she would never have anything like that because she was an alien; that her life would never be normal like she wanted it to be. A few episodes later, she meets Adam; a literal Prince Charming. They date for a while, and things look great. We're all hoping this is the guy Kara (Supergirl) was waiting for, but then they break up. Well, technically she broke it off.

But anyway...

Before I started watching Supergirl I had seen a couple episodes from season two, where she was with a man named Mon-el. He was an alien too. He was the perfect fit for her; she could be normal with him. If she had stayed with Adam, she would never have had Mon-el. And that is like us too...

God can see into our season two, when we're still playing in season one.

We have to understand that what I did with the series, knowing that what Kara was pursuing wasn't what she needed, is what God is doing with us. He can see into our future, He knows what is to come. Newsflash, we can't. So we have to stop trying to control it and win. We have to stop trying to make life work out the way we want it, and allow God to let His plan reign higher than ours. That is the only way we are going to get what we need, the only way to get our "Mon-el".

This is how I am thinking.

You're in season, or maybe you're in season two?

Let's take it you're in season one. You want desperately to get what you have been praying for years, months, decades? However long it has been. You're on the very verge of trying to make the plans and prayers you want to come alive. You're going out and trying to meet that one person, or you're trying so so hard to get that grade up or to get that promotion, whatever it is, but it isn't happening. The thing is, we're not supposed to be fighting to get to our season two. We need to wait, and leave things up to God. He is the only one who can see into season two, let things play out.

To be honest with you all, some of us have many problems. And those problems, all have different seasons. For example, you have two problems: one, you need a promotion, and two, you've just gotten into the relationship you know God wants you to stay in for the rest of your life. Problem one is in season one and problem two, is in season two. Two different problems in two different seasons. It happens. And usually, there are more than one. The trick is, try to pick the one that effects you most of the day. I know it is difficult, but it isn't impossible.

Punchline: God knows what is to come in season two, and He will give you your "Mon-el" (your prayer request) when season one is complete.
