Where are You?
How shall I find You?
I stand on my stoep
In the lightening of the dawn
And gaze into the heavens.
Broken clouds go scudding across the sky
Revealing the moon and one bright morning star–
And I wonder,
Are You there?Are You there, Lord?
Far above our heaven
With its sun, moon and stars?
Perfectly removed from earth,
Untouched by human need and sorrow?
Do You gaze upon this sad old world?
With cold unfeeling heart?Ah! No.
As I watch for rising of the sun
Night clouds disappear;
Sunlit mists come drifting lazily across the sky,
I see the heavens clothed in all their matchless glory;-
And I remember that You came
Into this world:
Our world of sorrow and pain.Not as a prince upon a throne
Wielding a sceptre of strength and power;
But into the home of a village maid You came.
There in that little village
Among the hills you lived,
And went about doing good.Darkness and death retreated at Your touch,
Blind and deaf responded to Your call;
But sin in human hearts had formed a veil,
Thr'o which men could not see that You were really GOD.And so once more I gaze into the skies.
Not asking "are You there Lord"
But looking for Your coming again.
Your glorious appearing through the clouds.
Now from the hearts of myriads who love You
The cry will rise,
OH! COME LORD JESUS, COME.- Gladys Muriel Phillips
