Shane's POV:

I couldn't do anything with the knife in that was on my throat. All I could do was scream. Then I heard the voice say that he was my real dad. All the memories of what he did to me popped in my head.

Shane's Flashback

"Daddy, can I have a box of candy?" I asked my dad. He said no, then put his face next to my ear.

"If you don't stop asking, I'm going to beat you when I get home you piece of shit." That broke my heart, but I was used to it. He did this to me all the time. I had to ask my mom—when he wasn't around, which hardly ever happened—to get something that I wanted. I sighed. All of this started when he saw me kiss my best friend. After that day, he treated me like I was a piece of gum in the street.
I put my head down, unable to look the man in the face. After he paid for what he got, he walked me to the car, holding my arm so tight, I tried to pry his hands. He stopped and looked at me. He wanted to do something, but there were too many people around. He let me go, his face turning red from anger. I just kept my face down and walked towards the car. I opened the door, but before I could get in, he punched me, making me cry out in pain. He then slammed the door, in an attempt to make it look like I shut the door on my hand.

"I wish you were never born." He told me.
