"Figlio, tell me something?"
I looked at my father through the mirror I was standing in front of, trying to fix my tie. My farther, Antonio, sat behind me in a chair observing my actions closely.
"Si Papa, anything you'd like to hear."
I stopped messing with my tie to fully give my farther my attention. Back home this was a form of respect, when you talk with your friends you can do as you please and still talk with them, but with an elder you must give them your full attention.
"This girl, are you sure she is the one?"
"Papa I am very sure that she is."
"Figlio I only ask because you know that a war may come from this."
"A war? Come mai Papa?" (How so)
"Those unnamed will pay the price for taking a man from his famiglia."
Knowing exactly who and what he was referring to I took this as the time to walk over to my farther, kneeling before his feet.
"Papa why do you worry? Se ne sono andati ora." (They are gone now)
My farther kept his stare on me and I tried to figure out the emotions spilling from his eyes, but he masked them well.
"So che il mio ragazzo, lo so." (I know my boy, I know)
He said plastering on a firm smile as he took me face in the palms of his hands, kissing both of my cheeks.
"Ti amo mio figlio." (I love you my son)
"I love you too Papa."
My farther did this every time he and my mother would fight when I was boy. It was his way of trying to protect and hide me from worry, but I was no longer a little boy in Sicily.

Sh*t. Sh*t. Sh*t. I cursed running out of the daycare Noah attended. I had a rough time dropping him off this morning. He was having those 'I'm going to be very attached to mommy' mornings and would not let go. I on the other hand didn't do anything to help the situation because it broke my heart seeing him cry the way he did. Noah had been a very easy baby, he was always quite and was still very quite. He hated loud noises, being the center of attention, and barely cried. But still he was attached to me like glue. I couldn't blame him though, it had only been he and I since he was born, he knew of no one else really.
Now I was speeding back my mother's house to change into my work attire and get to Rinaldi Industrial before eight o'clock. I don't care how many stop lights I run and speed limits I break, I was not loosing this job on my first day. Getting to my mother's house I roughly pulled into her driveway, slamming my car door and busting through the front doors of her house. Inside the house my mother stood in the living room tapping her foot smirking at me.
"Mama not now plea-"
"Your outfit in the bathroom and your tea is already to go. Also I will putting your bag, which has your phone and charger already in it, into your car."
She took my keys from me and grabbed my bag off the couch going out to my car, but no before tapping my bum and telling me to move my a**. Good Lord what would I do without her? I thought to myself racing up the stairs to the hallway bathroom. There I quickly changed out of my night wear and slipped on the outfit my mom had laid out. I hadn't taken the time to look myself over and started straight away on my makeup and hair.
Now I took a quick glance at myself on the body mirror on the back of the bathroom door. I was satisfied with way I looked, but mostly impressed at how well my mother knew me. Taking one last look I rushed down to the kitchen, grabbing my tea and coat heading right for the door. Outside my mother was standing by the car, she had the driver's side opened and the car already started. Oh this woman! Kissing my mom on the cheek I got in quickly, allowing her to close my door.
"Bye Mama, see you tonight. Je t'aime!" (I love you)
My mother blew me a kiss as I pulled out, quickly speeding off.
On route to work I was stopped at a stop light not to far off from the building. From the light I could actually see the building. I took this moment to finally look at the clock, not once since I had raced from Noah's school and to the house did I even think to look at the clock. The clock read 7:15, reading that put the biggest smile on my face it relieved me greatly. I had over thirty-five minutes, I was keep my job today. When the light finally turned green I drove directly towards the building. Pulling up to the building I saw a woman waving me down.
"Please, oh please dear Lord! Tell me you're Ayanna Ojukwo."
I looked at the woman nodding uneasily as I eyed her. The woman did a little jump, throwing her fist in the air.
"Darling thank a bulls hide you're here. Hi! I'm Daphne Park, but you can call me Daph. I work here at Rinaldi Industrial and I was assigned to show you around, since it is your first day."
"Oh, that is very kind if you. Thank you."
"Don't sweat it doll face. Now you just go on ahead and park yourself on parking deck A, after doing that you come on down and meet me in the lobby."
She pointed toward the parking area and smiled at me before walking back into the building. I smiled seeing that this place wasn't at all bad, well that's what I hoped.
