"Gaston: Lefou, I'm afraid I've been thinking...
Lefou: A dangerous pastime?
Gaston: I know."
-Beauty and the Beast.
Everyone stared at Elisa McGillicuddy as she made her way past the lunch tables to join Celia and Milo at today's designated spot.
She could feel all eyes on her, a few people snickered, others were whispering, and some even whistled at her.
She couldn't help but laugh as she imagined the confusion everyone must have been feeling. She wondered what might be running through their minds, and she decided she really didn't want to know before scowling.
She held her lunch tray extra carefully today as to not spill anything on herself, because that would be a total disaster.
Normally she wouldn't care, but today was a special occasion.
Celia didn't even try to hide the gawking expression on her face, and neither did Evan Jones, Trey Anderson, Julie Summers or Darla Stevenson.
Ellie thought they all looked like cartoon characters, staring at her wide-eyed and with their mouths partly open.
Milo raised an eyebrow at her, shrugged, and leaned over to take another spoonful of macaroni.
"E-Ellie," Celia barely managed to stutter once Ellie had sat down next to Darla, who still just glanced at her.
"Yeah?" Ellie asked right before scooping up a bit of her own macaroni and popping it into her mouth.
"I know we were supposed to dress up for today's assignment and all, but theatre isn't for another three hours. Don't you think it's a little bit too , y'know, freaking early?" Celia asked her.
Ellie shrugged.
Today's assignment was similar to the last one they had done in partners, but this time it was a bit more elaborate.
Students had to pick a scene from a play of their liking (or to Ellie, movie of her liking) and they actually had to memorize their lines and bring a costume and dress up and all that. It was a more elaborate type of sketch and it counted for their final grade, since exams started next week.
Ellie had decided to go with Beauty and the Beast.
So there she sat at the lunch table, with her blue ankle-length pinafore dress, her white V-neck blouse with long puffy sleeves, both white collar and cuffs, and her white petticoat and apron.
Celia shook her head, knowing that Ellie had actually bought Belle's village costume only for this occasion.
She wasn't sure if Ellie was really very dedicated, or a tad bit too obsessed.
She went with the latter.
"Don't you feel... strange being all dressed up already and have everyone stare at you?" she asked Ellie.
"Nope." Ellie said with her mouth full. After she had swallowed, she continued. "Everyone already knows I love Disney so it shouldn't come as a shock to them."
"Trust me," Trey added, "it does."
"Hey Celia," Ellie piped up, reaching into her shirt and pulling out a blue ribbon "can ya help me with this?"
