"Kenai: I'm not a bear. I hate bears!
Rutt: Well, gee, eh, you're one big beaver."
-Brother Bear.
"Ballroom dress?"
"Check."
"Wig?"
"Check."
"Rollerblades?"
"Check."
"Bueno, mi amor, creo que estas lista. (Well, my love, I think you're ready.)"
Ellie smiled at her mom as she piled everything in the backseat of her Bug.
She bit her lower lip anxiously, and proceeded back into the house alongside her mom.
It was 2 PM on Friday afternoon, and she was about to head over to Lionel's house to get ready for opening night.
It was today.
All the rehearsing, the fights, the getting together to run lines, the shouting... it had all led up to this day.
Ellie felt at times that she was going to throw up in excitement.
"Daddy?" she yelled as she entered through the front door.
"What?" he answered, his voice clearly coming from the kitchen.
She walked inside, and saw him searching the pantry closet feverishly.
"What are you doing?" she asked, a smile on her lips.
"Looking for the video camera stand." He said.
"Why can't you just hold it up?"
"Oh, sure. For two hours? No way."
Ellie let out a little laugh.
"Anyway, I'm off. Make sure you find that stand because I want to be able to show my grandchildren my awesome performance."
"Sure, sure."
"And tell Danny he has to be there at five o'clock to help set the stage."
"Okay."
"And make sure you and mom get there 20 minutes before to get good seats."
"What time does this thing start?" her dad asked her as he stuck his head out of the pantry to glance at her.
Ellie shook her head, but smiled.
She liked the way he seemed to be blowing off the play like it was nothing important, but she knew he was really excited to see her act.
"Seven. Do not be late."
"Sure."
"Bye!" she yelled as she raced towards him, planted a kiss on his cheek, and then raced back out the kitchen.
Every time she thought of the fact that in a few hours she was going to be performing on stage for real, it made her heart beat faster in her chest.
And then the way her dad was fixing up the video camera to film her made her feel nostalgic because he used to do it back when she and her class put on plays in elementary school.
