- are names of persons, animals, places, things, events or ideas

- the term noun came from the Latin word nomen which means name

Three kinds of nouns :
common nouns
proper nouns
collective nouns

1. Common Nouns
- refer to a kind of person, place, or thing
- general names
- begin with small letter
