          Syl - la - ble   - part of a word which is pronounced as one unit

          Syllabication refers to breaking words up into their component syllables

Rules in Syllabicating Words

1. Do not divide words of ane syllable
     Examples:

clouds
doubt
ground

2. Do not leave one letter standing alone on a line
     Examples:

about
among
ocean

3. In the word ending in -ble as in these below carry the last two syllables on the next line
     Examples:

comfortable
possible

4. Divide between two consonants standing two vowels
     Examples:

is - lands
win - dow
won - dered

5. Divide solid compound words at the natural word break
    Examples:

back - yard
note - book

6. In words with prefixes, divide after prefix
    Examples:

pre - mature
un - certain

7. In words with suffixes, divide before the suffix
    Examples:

danger - ous
manage - ment

8. When the final consonant is doubled before adding the suffix -ing carry over the added letter
    Examples:

cut - ting
nod - ding
