Paul took a deep breath before he knocked on Heidi's door. This was it. This was the night that could change his life forever. He could think of a thousand- wait no- A million ways the night could go wrong. He tried not to focus on the thoughts so he could stay confident. He needed all the confidence he had for that night. However, every thought seemed to be forgotten once Heidi opened the door. Paul gazed in admiration at the stunning woman in front of him. She always looked beautiful, but now... now something was different. As she stood in front of him in a long, gorgeous, dark blue dress, with her blonde hair done up in a beautiful bun, he could barely do anything other than stare in amazement. After a few moments, Heidi cleared her throat, chuckling quietly after she saw Paul snap out of his gaze. "I-uh- Y-You look gorgeous-" he was suddenly interrupted once Heidi leaned forward and shut him up with a kiss.
"Ready?" She chuckled, seeming more confident and comfortable than usual. She held her arm out, and Paul took it. He leaned in to kiss her cheek before escorting her to his car.
The two of them dined at a fancy restaurant, one the two of them would normally never eat at. Paul made sure to get them a seat near a window so they could enjoy the view. Paul knew that didn't matter to him, cause he would enjoy looking at the beautiful woman in front of him no matter where he was. The night seemed to pass quickly for the couple. All Paul could think of was when he could finally propose. He needed the timing to be absolutely perfect. After more small talk, he knew. It was time.
"Heidi, I uh, I have something I need to ask you." He looked her in the eyes as he got up from his chair and slowly got down on one knee. Heidi gasped when he pulled a sparkling ring from his pocket, and held it out to her. "Heidi Hansen," he started, "You make me the happiest man alive and I... I want you to make me happy forever. I want to be there for you... for your son... for as long as I will live. Heidi Hansen, will you marry me?"
Heidi was crying. Tears of joy streamed down her face as she held her hand out and choked out a small "Yes." It was all she really could get out. All she wanted in life was to really be proposed to. The last time she really was asked to be someone's wife was just because she was pregnant with Evan. Now... this was different. She felt as if this man would be by her side no matter what. He was marrying her because he loved her, not because they were irresponsible. And it felt wonderful. She held out her hand so she could put on the ring and then helped him up and hugged him. The hug was long and tight, Heidi resting her head on his shoulder. She felt safe and happy. "I love you..." She whispered into his ear. She knew she would be safe with him. Finally, she would get her happy ending.
