Melanie's Pov
"Get up, get up, get up!" Forest, a 17 year old girl with short dark brown hair, yelled. I was so shocked; I almost fell out of bed. "Oops, I didn't mean to scare you Mel," Forest looked down at me, her younger cousin, innocently with a hidden smirk on her face. I just shrugged, "It's fine." I looked at my cousin with a small smile which turned into a frown, "but why did you have to yell?"
"Mum told me to get you up," Forest smiled with amusement, "so I did," she finished her sentence already halfway out the room before I tried throwing my pillow at her.
I groaned with annoyance as I slowly got out of bed and heading to the bathroom to have a quick shower. Ten minutes later, I was back in my room, "What to wear today?" I wondered out loud, searching through my walk in closet. One of the best things about Woodsville High is that they don't believe in uniforms and you can wear whatever you want and not get in trouble.
I decided on my favourite royal blue summer dress and black ballet flats. I slipped on a small but cute, white denim jacket over my shoulders. Pinning my long, straight, black hair into a bun, holding it up with a silver butterfly pin. I added mascara and smiled at my reflection.I might not think l'm one of the popular girls at school, but that never changed the way I feel about myself and my looks. I stared at my reflection, I have a cute button nose and pretty green eyes that were nearly the same colour as a leaf.
"Melanie Jane Taylor!" I heard my Aunt call me in a sing song voice, as I was packing my books in my tote/bag.
"Yeah?" I called back.
"Are you ready for a bit of breakfast before you go to school?"
"Ummmm, Yeah," I answered, quickly checking myself over in the mirror, making sure I didn't have one hair out of place, before grabbing my bag and closing the door to my room as I left it.
Entering the dining room, I found my older cousin, who looked up as I walked in and blinked, then went back to munching on her cornflakes. I frowned at Forest, but it faded as I could smell the amazing scent of fruit bread, my stomach growled. As I sat down a woman with short brown hair and a slim body walked in and put two pieces of warm, buttered, toasted fruit bread on my plate. "Yum! Thanks Aunt Marissa," I thanked her, and took a bite of my food.
"Well, I can't let my only niece, start her day with an empty stomach," the woman smiled, "Anyway, you girls better get going or you will miss your bus."
Forest and I quickly finished off our breakfast and grabbed our bags, as we ran out the door into the front yard, just as the bus was pulling up to the curb. Forest sat at the back of the bus, where a boy with blond hair was sitting, Mickey, Forest's boyfriend.I sat next to girl with big hazel eyes and a nice smile. "Hey April," I said to my best friend.
"Hey Mel," April replied and smiled brightly at me. We both looked back as Mickey and Forest pashed, "EWWWWW!" we complained at the sight of it, looking back at each other with disgusted looks. "It's one thing having to put up with THAT at home, let alone anywhere else," I cringed as I finished complaining.
"I feel so sorry for you Hun, I mean if Kyle had a girlfriend and if they just kissed all the time.....ewww just eww." We both cracked up laughing. When I started recovering from my laughing fit and looked up, I saw a friendly face inches from my own. I pretty much jumped out of my seat. Aish laughed so hard, he could hardly breathe.
"Oh hardy ha-ha Aish! Why you gotta be such a jerk all the time?"
"It comes with the charm," he replied with a grin. April and I looked at each other and then back at Aish, then suddenly cracked up laughing.
"Yeah, you're as charming as my grandma's teeth after a three week bender!" April said trying to control her laughter.
"Yeah, well at least I'm not a scaredy cat Mel," he said not finding what they said amusing.
"Oh shut up!" I glared at him.
"Dude? You're blocking the aisle," said a familiar voice from behind Aish. My breathe almost caught in my throat. 'Oh my gosh, it's him, its him!' I thought to myself.
"Oh sorry man," Aish moved and found a seat across from the girls. A boy with dirty blond hair and a lopsided smile stood there. "It's all good Aish," the boy said happily taking a seat next to him, he then turned his head to look at me with his green eyes, I couldn't stop the urge of biting my lip.
"You're Melanie, right?" he asked me with a grin.
'Oh my god, he knows my name!' I thought shocked. I always thought Erik, my crush since I laid eyes on him two years ago in one of my classes, never knew I existed, let alone know my name.
"Uh, yeah," I gulped, "that's right." I stuttered.
As other got on the bus, one of Erik's mates says, "Why are you sitting here? Come on let's got to the back before there's no seats left." The guy continued to the back of the bus.
"Well, nice talking to you all, but i gotta jet." Erik politely said, before standing and following his mates tot he back. As soon he was out of ear shot, I let out a big breath, " Wow," I breathed.
"Isn't he just hot? April asked rhetorically.
"Hell yeah!" I squealed.
"And I'm not?" Aish asked, offensively.
"No, you are not; cute, yes, hot, no," April and I responded.
"Thanks girls, you're the best." He replied sarcastically.
When the bus finally arrived at Woodsville High, everyone pushed and shoved to get off the bus. April and I made it off, safely, unlike Aish who had already gotten himself into a punch up, as per usual. I grabbed Aish's arm and pulled, "Come on Aish, they aren't worth it," I tried pulling him but struggled.
"Who's this? You're girlfriend Aishy?" One of them mocked before cracking up laughing. That's when I froze, which stopped my hold on Aish, an unamused smile appeared on my face before slowly turning around and punching the guy in the jaw. "No I am his best friend, Jerk, now get out of my sight before I am tempted to punch you again," I threatened him.
" You little bi-" just as the guy was about to hit me, someone stood in front of me, blocking the hit.
"Dude? Really hitting a girl? It's low." I recognized the voice, once I heard it. Erik turned and faced me, "Are you alright, Melanie?" I looked into his bright green eyes, reminding me of my own.
"Yes," I finally responded after a couple of seconds of silence, " I'm fine, thanks," I smiled, weakly.
He smiled back, showing his pearl white teeth, "Cool." That's when the bell rang, " Well, I'll see you around, Mel."
"See ya," I called back as I watched him leave, then headed to my homeroom.
