Mari-Anna’s Pov
Three hours later my older brother and I arrived in Woodsville, it was around five thirty, close to dark. As William pulled into the driveway of a small house, I could see the light coming from the lounge room window, where a Border collie was jumping up and down and barking. I smiled as I saw the puppy and opened the door on my side of the car.
William opened the front door, “Mindy, we’re home,” he called while walking into the house. A young woman, who looked in her twenties, walked out of the kitchen, her long blond hair, pulled into a ponytail. Seeing Mari-Anna she smiled, “Hey Mari,” she greeted her and gave William a peck on the cheek. I scrunched up my face at the sight, “Hey Mindy, you two are so cute, I think I’m gonna bee sick,” I smirked.
In that moment, the Border collie came running towards me, nearly knocking me over, “Whoa, calm down Star,” I patted the pup on the head and laughed as Star started licking my hand. “Mari, can you please go get you bags out of the SUV before you forget?” William asked me.
“Yeah, okay,” I replied as I walked out the door. The night air was cold, I grabbed out my favourite blue jumper from my bag and slipped it on, and then I grabbed my bags and took them inside. I knew exactly where I was sleeping, so I dumped my bags into a room with violet walls and dark purple curtains covering the window seat. The bed was made with a blue quilt cover with clouds all over it; it was the one I used when I used to come visit during the summer.
“Dinners ready!” I heard Mindy call. I realised how hungry I was, that I nearly tripped over my bags, sprinting to the table. One of the things I loved about Mindy was her amazing cooking. After I knew I was full, I questioned my brother, “So what’s the deal with me….being educated?” I looked at William, “Am I going to school, being home schooled or what?” William raised his eyebrow at his me.
“Well, I’m definitely not teaching you anything,” he smirked as he answered my question.
“Thank god!” I sighed with relief. Mindy laughed at the two of us, “its okay Mari, you are already enrolled at the local high school, Woodsville High, you start tomorrow, I’ll be driving you and William will pick you up after,” she explained clearly.
“What do I wear?” I asked, confused.
“Anything you like as long as it’s appropriate,” my face lit up with happiness as I smiled brightly.
“Thanks for tea Mindy,” I thanked her and headed straight to my room.I unpacked all my clothes placing them in my wooden dresser, then picked out my favourite tank top, that said ‘Yeah, I have an attitude what of it?,” also picked out a nice short black skirt and my leather boots. I was so excited, but I slowly started to realise something and thought to myself, ‘Crap, I don’t know anyone,’ nervous she also thought ‘what if I don’t make any friends or people judge me or bully me,’ I frowned, starting to worry.
There was a light knock on my door, “Come in,” I said, as I sat on my bed.
“You all set for tomorrow?” Mindy popped her head in, “I bought you some school books.” Mindy walked in and handed them to me, with a smile that slowly faded, “What’s wrong hun?” she asked worried, “you look scared.”
“Oh, it’s nothing, just nervous I guess,” I replied, “what if I get bullied and don’t make any friends?” I was upset.
“Oh Hun, trust me, Woodsville high is one of the friendliest schools, I went there when I was your age and I had friends in a blink of an eye,” Mindy reassured me, “you will be fine, I promise.”
"Thanks," I said feeling better.
"Mari, it's ten thirty, time for bed," William called.
"Okay," I called back to my brother and opened the door to give him a hug goodnight, then did the same for Mindy. "Goodnight Mari," they both said, before closing the door as they walked out. I slipped into my Pj's and hopped into my nice, cozy warm bed.
"Everything will be fine," I kept reassuring myself again and again, until my eyelids became heavy and I drifted into a deep sleep.
Running through the dark forest, I tripped over a big log and cut my knee on a stone. It hurt so much, as I watched the crimson droplets of my blood drip on the ground, I clenched my teeth. I knew if I didn't get up, what ever was chasing me would catch up, so I ignored the pain and ran as fast I could. I could hear footsteps behind me getting closer and louder by the minute. Suddenly, in the middle of nowhere, a snow white furred wolf jump in the way of my path, making me skid to a stop. I stared, terrified and confused. Slowly, the wolf then shape shifted into a girl no older then seventeen, with hair as white as snow in a pixie cut, her golden eyes stared right at me. My pale blues eyes widened with fear, she had no idea who or what this girl was. Out of nowhere, someone grabbed my arm and pulled it, violently, causing me to scream.
William's Pov
William came bursting into through the door, shaking his little sister awake who was screaming and fighting against him, "NO! Let me go!" she shouted at him, her eyes still closed. "Mari! Open your eyes," William looked at her concerned, then her pale blue eyes shot open with horror, next thing she was crying. "Hey, it's okay, you're safe now," he pulled her into an embrace and kissed her forehead. Eventually she stopped crying and told William, "I'm gonna go back to sleep," she yawned while saying this.
"Okay," he got up and walked out closing the door behind him, 'Good Job Lillian, god I was trying to sleep!' he thought as walking back up the stairs.
Mari's Pov
Finally hearing my brother's footsteps fade, I turned on my lamp, rolling up my pyjama pants and looked for the cut, but there wasn't even a scratch. I let out a deep breath and tried to relax. "It was only a nightmare, nothing to be scared of," I reassured herself. Switching off my lamp, lying awake, until I finally drifted back to sleep.
