A Four-Part Poem (Parts 1-3)

9/15/16

I don't tell you that I dreamed of you last night
I don't tell you that I want back what we had
I tell you it's okay when you apologize for stacking papers
When it's really not
Because internally I am secretly aching
Secretly cursing the one who divided us,
And all the other like her who strive to trap us
Entangle us with facades of love
When really all they do is strangle the love out of us
And make us who we are.

10/24/16

You come back one day and your voice shows signs of maturity,
But your words don't.

11/3/16

You're over there
Sporting your swinging skirt
And your new suede shoes
And I'm over here
Still singing songs of the past
That we once called ours.
