it was a boring day at richmond high school and ashton was dying of boredom.

this was the only subject that none of his friends were in, and that's why he hated it. but he got good grades so he didn't drop it.

"and that's- ashton irwin if that's a phone" ashton looked up from his lap to see his teacher watching him angrily.

"it's not" ashton answered throwing his hands in the air and she rolled her eyes.

"okay moving on" she started talking about some kind of disease in the 1800's but ashton zoned out again.

when he came back to earth his teacher, ms williams was writing on the board the homework.

"and remember if you don't have your homework, you own me a lunch time" she told the class and ashton groaned before writing the homework down in his organiser.

"ashton, stay behind please" ms williams told him as everyone stood up to leave.

he huffed but packed up his things on his desk. ms williams looked at him and sighed.

"what are we going to do with you, ashton?"

ashton shrugged, "let me out of the class?"

she laughed but shook her head.

"i mean about how you never listen" she raised an eyebrow at him and he shrugged again.

"come on, ashton" she sighed, "i need you to try harder." ashton rolled his eyes.

"fine, i will" he sighed and stood up.

"ashton, please try" he looked at her and she nodded at the door, "you can go" and he left the room quickly.

ashton speed walked to his locker where calum, his best friend, was leaning on his locker waiting for him.

"ashton, bro where were you?" he asked as ashton opened his locker.

"ms williams needed to talk to me" he rolled his eyes and calum laughed.

"you weren't listening again?"

"oh you know it" he laughed.

calum smiled at him while ashton stuffed his things into his locker.

"you been waiting long?" he asked and calum shook his head.

"no, i was talking to sasha" he blushed and ashton chuckled at his best mate, and slammed his locker closed.

"aw about what?" ashton cooed and calum punched him.

"about our science project" he answered and then laughed.

they walked to their normal sitting place for lunch out on the oval.

after a couple minutes a few of their friends joined them, including sasha.

---
after lunch the pair made their way to their english class.

"only shit, are speeches today?" calum suddenly blurted when they walked down the hallway.

"yeah" ashton answered, "i told you yesterday" and calum waved him off.

"i don't listen to you" he muttered, "fuck i'm screwed."

"your fault."

they walked into the class together, mr mcpreen waved to them happily.

"how are my favourite couple?" he asked and calum shook his head.

"once again mr mcpreen, i'm not gay and ashton is not my type" calum answered and ashton laughed nodding.

"nice to see you too, mr mcpreen."

both boys sat in the corner in the back as the rest of the class walked in.

"okay as you know," mr mcpreen said when everyone was in class and the role was marked, "speeches are today."

calum groaned next to ashton who smirked.

ashton was prepared and was ready to speak.

mr mcpreen looked over at some girl, who was smiling at her lap and he smiled.

"you're first, darling" he stated, "and you can get your phone back later" he pointed and smirked and she looked up and huffed, just like ashton would.

she passed her phone to mr mcpreen while setting her speech up.

before she started to speak mr mcpreen laughed.

"mikey bear texted you something inappropriate" he laughed and the girl, who ashton didn't know blushed.

"can i please start" she muttered and ashton had to admit she was brave.

mr mcpreen smiled and placed the phone down on the table and watched her.

"go for it, kayla" and she smiled and started her speak about puck from midsummer night's dream.

when she finished mr mcpreen clapped loudly.

"well done, kayla!" her friends cheered and she smiled proudly.

mr mcpreen looked at calum and nodded at him.

"okay calum you're up" he pointed to the stage and calum sighed.

he knew he couldn't back out. he would just have to make it up.

"go calum!" ashton patted his back and calum grinned nervously.

"today i'm doing helena from midsummer night's dream-"

before he could continue a bell rang out, not just any bell a lockdown bell.

calum sighed in relief and walked back over to ashton.

mr mcpreen looked at the clock and his eyes widen.

"um class," he whispered but loud enough for ashton and calum to hear him, "this isn't fake, so as we've practised before, under desks, lock the windows and cover them please" he, himself went to the door to lock it.

students in the class were calm, thinking that it was fake and mr mcpreen just wanted to scare them.

but they did what he said and locked and covered the windows before going under desks.

ashton made sure everything was okay and locked before getting under his desk, next to calum.

calum was grinning like a fool.

"this is so good," he cheered quietly, "no speech," he hi-fived ashton and grinned cheekily.

the class talked quietly and laughed as if it was a drill but mr mcpreen wasn't talking with them like he usually did, because he was a younger one he didn't care that much in drills.

that's what tipped ashton off,

because mr mcpreen cared right now and he looked shit scared.

"calum, maybe this isn't fake," and that's when they heard the first scream.
