Throwing open the double doors of the school, I'm bombarded with heavy fear that's littered in the air. I hardly have time to register anything else when my eyes land on something in the middle of the hallway.
Gasping loudly, I exclaim "Peter!" running up to his stone figure. My wide eyes look over him, looking for any crack in the statue but find none.
I raise my hand to hover over the stone but think better of it and train my ears to find a heartbeat. The slow yet beating heart pumps weakly through all the layers of stone.
The Anuk-ite does this if you look at it?
How in the hell do you save someone from this? I hope Scott hurries his furry ass up.
"Katerina"
Snapping my head to the side, my whole body freezes up. Anxiety pores off me at the sudden call of my name. Not from a voice I expected to hear in Beacon Hills again. I could describe it as creepy, but eerie was closer to it.
Forcing myself to move away from Peter, my claws sprout from my fingertips as if that'll protect me from the Medusa-like monster. The stillness of the air seems to suck even the sound of my footfalls into the nothingness. It was the kind of silence that falls right before you get knifed in the back. It sent a shiver down my spine and I felt my blood chill in my veins.
Soon, I find myself in a hallway all by myself. Not even Peter's staued body in sight and for a moment I fear for my two betas out there, wondering if this thing has gotten to them.
A growl sounds from behind me.
Eyes widening, breaths ragged and harsh. My hands tremble at my sides and I jam my fist into my mouth to stifle the scream. I hear it coming; the soft susurration of its footsteps, like a threatening whisper. It didn't seem to come from any direction, just a sound echoing through the dark and empty halls of the high school.
"Katerina" its voice echoes around me in a mean taunt using a voice I haven't heard in what it seems like centuries, leaving my skin crawling and my body shaking.
I probably wasn't going to make it out alive. My legs are frozen into place. Fear overwhelms my body, making it drastically exhausted.
Seeing it round the corner into my line of vision, I shut my eyes tightly. Each second seems to play on forever, as I stand perfectly still listening to the footsteps of my likely murderer. My only hope is that Derek hasn't been victimized by this monstrous creature.
"My darling, daughter. How I've missed you"
The unmistakable chiming voice of my long deceased mother flows between us and I almost want to believe she's in front of me. That this thing has killed me and I'm reuniting with my family but luck has never been on my side.
What started as a contortion of my stomach becomes a feeling of being smothered by an invisible hand as it steps closer and closer. My breathing becomes erratic, deep, then shallow. I fight it. I fight the feeling as my body writhes to be free or shut down entirely.
