Chapter 47 - Swerving

Ethan walked through the Warehouse back door and saw Grayson holding my hand and pulling me back to him. I turned to look at him, he put his bag on the floor and walked over to the both of us.
"What're you doing?" He looked at Gray, Gray let go of my hand and gulped back his tears.
"Someone's at the door" I told Ethan.
"I'll get it" Ethan said as he walked over to the door. Gray grabbed my hand again and looked at me.
"I love you" he whispered. Looking back over to the door, Ethan opened it.
"It's just some girl, she says she knows you, Kyla." Ethan moved out of the way of the entrance, allowing the girl inside. I recognised her immediately.

My heart pounded. I couldn't believe what I was seeing...

"Beth?!"
"Hi, Kyla." I ran over to her, grabbed her and hugged her tightly.
"You do know her then?" Ethan asked.
"Know her? She's my best friend!" Beth smiled at Ethan and waved awkwardly. I pulled away but continued holding her shoulders.
"What are you doing here?"
"Well uhm-"
"She... She's here for me." Gray butted in behind us. I turned to face him, confused.
"For you?" Ethan laughed.
"She's my girlfriend."
"Girl-" I looked back at Beth. My heart had shattered into a thousand pieces. I'll admit that it took a few moments to sink in. My best friend, dating my ex. The one person I had trusted with everything.
"Kyla, I'm so sorry..." Gray said, with guilt written all over his face.
"Her best friend, Gray... Really?" Gray looked over to Ethan and then back to the floor. I couldn't say anything.
"That's low even for you" Ethan continued. Gray stood with his head down, unsure of what to say to defend himself.
"Low for him? You fucked his girlfriend" Beth snapped back at him. I knew Beth didn't take shit from anyone, but to stand up to Ethan Dolan... Damn.
"She wasn't his girlfr-"
"Ethan, stop" I cut him off and reluctantly looked back at Beth. "How long have you been here?" I asked her. She tugged on the sleeve of her hoodie.
"A few days."
"So this is why you didn't come see me in the hospital? You were too busy fucking Kyla's best friend to come see your own fucking brother?" Ethan began getting riled up again.
"E..." I looked at him and shook my head.
"I need to talk to you... Alone." I pulled Beth into Grayson's room and locked the door behind us.

"What're you doing?" I asked on the verge of tears.
"Me? What the hell are you doing? Swerving between the both of them. Kyla you didn't tell me you'd fucked Ethan!"
"What about you swerving? I thought you were in Ethan's lane!"
"And I thought you were in Gray's but here we are" she replied sarcastically.
"That's my ex boyfriend, Beth. My ex boyfriend!"
"He wouldn't have been if you'd just kept your legs shut! I thought you loved hi-"
"I do. Don't you dare tell me that I don't. I'd die for those boys." She sighed and laughed.
"That's your problem, Kyla. 'Those boys'. You can't even pick one. You had a good thing with Grayson and you fucked it up and for what? A one night stand with Ethan?"

Ouch.

"Ethan isn't a fucking one night stand!"
"Well he's not your boyfriend either."

I knew what she said was true... I had an amazing thing with Gray before everything with Ethan. Gray was my best friend, someone I wanted to protect always. A lump in my throat formed, my eyes filled with tears.
"I fucked up, I know that! I tried leaving and look where that got me. Ethan and I in hospital because he chased after me... Grayson is my best friend and I lov-"
"Good. Keep it that way. Stop fucking swerving every 5 seconds. You destroyed Gray... So much so that he flew me out here to talk sense into you. When I heard what you'd done, I'll admit that I didn't believe him at first.. But the way he talked about you, the way he cried to me... I realised that he deserves a lot better than someone who'll do that to him."
"Who, you? You think you're any better than I am?"
"Yes. Because eventhough I was in Ethan's lane... I chose Grayson and I've stuck with it. I've stuck with one twin because I don't want either of them hurt. I wouldn't hurt Grayson... Not like you have."

She walked out of the room, leaving me to fall onto Gray's bed and fight back tears. My own best friend had betrayed me...
I heard a little shouting from downstairs and then footsteps. Ethan entered the room to see me sitting on Gray's bed, crying slightly. He walked over, sat beside me, put his arm over my shoulder and pulled me close to him.

"I'm sorry, Kyla..." I buried my face into his chest and sniffled a few times. Ethan comforted me, he made me feel safe but not even he could protect me from my own thoughts. My mind was a complete mess right now. Gray had kissed me and told me he loved me only to break my heart all over again seconds later.

Ethan kissed my forehead and stroked my hair, distracting me from my mind.

"I'm here, baby girl. I've got you."
