I was lost

I was lost
   stumbling in the dark
   I couldn't see
   couldn't take it anymore
I was going to give up

life held no joy
an empty shell
   silence
   never-ending night
   no dawn
no sunrise

   but You pulled me back
from the edge of the cliff
You lit a candle in the dark
and for the first time
   in a very long time
   I could see

one small light
and the darkness retreated

You spoke three words
into the emptiness
"I love you"
and for the first time
I really understood them
You filled me with Your love

just three words
and I came alive

You took my hand
put the candle in my palm
and we walked to save others
me and You, God
