I Burn

"I don't remember last night Ruby,"

"Then do you know what happened before you became drunk and made me talk to you during your hangover?"

"Well, I was talking to some friends, and-"

"Who went with you?"

"Nora, and I think Neon from team FNKI, oh and Coco and Velvet."

"Girls' night. So you said Neon and Nora talked and basically walked off, Velvet went home, Coco escorted her, and you were alone?"

"Yeah, but I remember going to the pool table, wasting 10 dollars, getting 20 in return for winning, drinking a Strawberry Sunrise, and then, and then,"

"Yang? Yang are you okay?"

"Yeah, it's fuzzy, but some guy wearing black, white, and grey sat with me. He had white, no black, no grey, maybe black hair, and his eyes were, I don't remember that."

"Okay, and did you catch his name?"

"Something along the lines of LMNO, I think it was, I want to say close to M? And his last name is fuzzy but it was a dark color for sure."

"Brown? White? Grey? Um, Purple? Indigo? Oh, Black?"

Yang's eyes widened.

She couldn't believe it. Was it him? What was he doing at a bar? In Vale? No it couldn't have been. But fate always changes. Usually making life harder to endure.

Yang's lip pursed while she tried to remember her demise. That night everything was blurry for her. She didn't even remember taking a drink or two. But now, the aftermath was bad. And she forbade herself from telling Ruby about this morning.

She woke up in a bed. By herself. With barely and clothes on. How could she be such a fool? How did she fall blind to a man's charm?

And now she'd pay these consequences. Giving life to another.

**** Four weeks later****

"Dad?" she asked.

He turned around to see his daughter standing there. Her prosthetic arm clinging tightly to her other arm.

"I have to tell you something,"

With her fakest smile, she looked her father directly in the eyes and said, "I'm pregnant."

"What?" he said dropping the glass cups.

"I've been having symptoms, and Velvet says that's the only explanation."

Taiyang looked at her like she was crazy. "And I think Ruby would be next," she said with a chuckle.

His eyes lit up and he hugged her close like it was instinct. "I want you to know that no matter what, I'm always here for you sunshine. I will always be around. Just for you. I support your decisions as well." he said with a faint smile.

Her eyes filled with tears as she fought the urge to release them. Luckily he took his finger and wiped them away. "Thank you," she whispered.

Of course her friends would find out sooner or later, but five months in, she was expected to attend the wedding of her /sister/.

Ruby Rose was wearing a red and white dress with a black accent, and she looked beautiful. Prettier than Weiss on her wedding. And with Blake's on hold, she was expected to do better than she might.

She had a bouquet of roses and petals scattered in the design of her veil. The lace blended well, and she seemed nervous yet excited. With her emotions set aside, she turned to Yang and helped her.

"You need to wear this," she gestured to the yellow and purple dress she'd picked out for her maid of honor, and Yang sighed. 

"Will it even work?"

The dress was around her size, and it had this longer side like a high-low dress, which Yang was fond of. Ruby even let her wear a jacket if she wanted to. Her abdomen was gradually increasing, the result of a one-night stand. Something she never saw herself doing.

But even amidst this tragic event, she obliged for her sister's special day. She tied the ribbon on the front and buckled the back side with the ties. Weiss and Blake were standing aside fixing the outfits on their daughters and then handing them off to their fathers in the tuxes.

Nora's dress was bright pink accented by white, Weiss wore a sparkly lace white, Blake had black with ruffles and buttons, and Yang had the buckled tie purple and yellow dress with a golden rose to complement her hair.

"Did you hear who the best man is?"

Whispers all around before Nora silenced them. 

"My Ren is the best man," she said proudly and triumphantly.

"Shh! Guys we have to go out there and get situated because it starts in ten minutes!" Yang yelled.

The four girls along with Velvet, rushed to the front and stood in their places. Yang next to where Ruby would stand, next to her Weiss, Blake, Nora, then Velvet. On the other side, a nervous Jaune stood sweating and staring out beyond the crowd. Behind him was Ren, then Sun holding Wisp, Neptune, and even Scarlet and Sage. All these teams together for this. And for kicks, Penny was installed with the newest soundtrack for these events.

With teachers, friends, and defeated teams who became friends in the crowd, the stage was set. Even parents attended whether they had to or not.

Finally the music cued, and Rochelle threw roses everywhere. Ruby, linking arms with Qrow, glided down the isle. Taiyang was behind them with his camera too.

As they got up there, the voice of Ozpin rang out across the crowd. Glynda stood next to Oscar, who told her what he said, and she projected it out as his voice. Winter was there watching Weiss to make sure she did the right movements. And in the back was all of Jaune's sisters. And a tired mother.

Qrow handed her off to Jaune, and then stepped back sitting next to Raven, who nervously sat next to Tai. Then it came to him. Summer would've loved this.

With hand in hand, the young couple stared at each other, before hearing the words "You may now-" And no hesitation needed at all.

Wisp's little fingers held the rings, and Blake walked over there and gently removed them. With a little giggle, she said, "There you go Ruby, sorry."

"It's fine."

And back to the talk. And when the final words were spoken against the situation, the two rejoiced and clang to each other like magnets.

Yang always wanted to see this happen. And when it was over, she was forced to return to her miserable life. Alone, and without company. But her friends would occasionally visit her apartment in Vale. And Yang would visit Ruby's house in the southern part of Vale.

All she could remember saying before her slumber was, "I wish for peace. I wish to fly free among the birds one day and soar higher. My heart burns gold with passion and fury. Help me find my fire again. And present me a phoenix to take my place one day. A phoenix..."

Dear gods and goddesses, bring me a phoenix...
