Die

"Mama, where are we going?"

No response. All she did was bring her finger to her lip as if she was telling the child to hush.

Mama never talked though. Not before Dad died or after. Still, the child only being 3, asked again.

"Mama?"

She hushed the child again. Now the child understood that they shouldn't ask any longer.

"Ice cream!" The child said excitedly.

Mama shook her head.

"You like ice cream?"

Now Mama agreed.

The child smiled while holding Mama's hand. Mama led the child to a small house with a quaint kitchen and two bedrooms.

She pointed to the sign out front with the FOR SALE lettering in a big bold font.

The child smiled and Mama gave the child their bag. The child opened it to find teddy bears, and stuffed animal. One in particular had a feather on the side and was white.

The child liked that one the most.

The child followed Mama and gently tugged on her coat. She looked down and scooped the child up. As she did this, the child saw her gently set a photo down. A photo of a man with orange hair and green eyes. He was wearing a white uniform with a black tie. And he looked determined.

Mama set the child down and finished unpacking her things. The moving truck pulled up and she went outside to grab the things. "Need any help miss?" a man with a blue uniform and hat asked.

She nodded and he helped her. Once done he asked, "Can you handle this by yourself Mrs. Roman?"

She nodded. She had to go by that because the military suspected a girl involved with the real Roman was still out there. She didn't want to be caught after clearing the slate.

"Neo is it?"

She nodded again. No one knew her name...

She signed her new name, her favorite name, and gave the men their clipboard.

"Take care now," they said bidding her goodbye.

She smiled.

"Mama? What now?" the child asked.

She pursed her lips then gasped. A happy gasp. She picked the child up and kissed their forehead. She grabbed her wallet and grabbed the child's hand. The child grabbed the stuffed animal with the feathers, and they walked out together. A check at her scroll said 3:39 PM. She locked the door with the key to their home, and led the child back to the city.

They passed many shops, and when it began to rain, she pulled out a pink and white umbrella. The two walked together to a place that said 'FROYO' on the front.

She brought the child in, and they went to the counter. The child asked for ice cream earlier. And she wanted some too.

Mama flickered her eyes, and her appearance changed completely. The child knew she did this. And the child wasn't afraid.

Her hair was black and tied back, and her eyes were green. Like the child's were. But the child had brown and black hair.

She brought the child to the front counter around her waist, and smiled at the cashier. "Aww, what a cutie! Your son's adorable!" she said with a smile.

Mama bowed to accept her complement, and she smiled at the girl again. "What can I get you?"

She pointed to the Neopolitan flavored one, and the child grinned. "Mint chocolate, please."

"Coming up!"

She handed her the money, and they got their treat. For once she felt normal. She felt happy that she was alive. But she remembered this wasn't her. And so on the way home, she transformed back into herself. Two different colored eyes, three different colored hair, and her usually pale skin. Making herself feel comfortable.

She opened the door and turned the light on, as well as closing the door. She heated food from last night and gave it to her son who looked sad.

She tilted her head and smiled.

Then she put him to bed. She watched him sleep and brushed his hair. She looked for that one specific section. And when she found it, she felt hope.

She caressed the orange streak of hair and watched his green eyes flicker. How she loved him. How she loved her lover. And how she mourned his quick death by Grimm.

She never talked but she felt as though she should find her voice. And as the door closed to her dear son's room, she whispered in the dark, "I love you, Roen."

And she closed the door.

Roen was the only thing that mattered to her. His first love, Cinder, drove her crazy. And when she met him, she felt happiness. Cinder was gone, and Neo was in.

Roman's favorite sweet, Neopolitan Ice Cream.

Neo could never be replaced. Nor could Roen. The child she swore her life and job to protect. And when the time was right, she'd send him to become good and fight for peace.

Never mentioning her life as a hitwoman. Or explaining his father's death.

Because they're the enemies now. And Roen might as well join to be a hunter. To avenge his father and protect his mother. And keep the promise to "Red".

Never give up. Stay strong dear Roen.
