This Will Be the Day

She slept soundly that night in the little vacation house. That is until something she never knew happened.

****

Her eyes, red as night saw everything in the dark.

"Are you in?"

"Affirmative."

"Check around for a sign,"

She nodded and tapped the speaker in her ear. As quiet as possible, she focused her vision and explored the house.

She closed the window in which she came, and walked up the stairs and down the long corridor.

Passing the rooms, she came across a room with a moonlight view and a large bed.

In that bed laid her target and the husband.

"Check for any signs."

"Okay,"

She looked around and observed the couple sleeping. She saw a huge bulge on the target's body, and she sighed tapping the mic.

"Um, excuse my asking your grace, but uh we have a problem."

Salem's voice crackled and she sighed. Probably at Cinder. "What is it Emerald?"

"There's no baby."

"What?"

"Your grace, she's still pregnant for quite sometime now."

"Take out the thing I gave you."

She removed the light blue stick from her pocket satchel and scanned the target.

"Not for long she isn't..."

"Time to head on back,"

"Yeah. Seems like we weren't here for long."

Ruby nodded and went to pick up a suitcase.

"Let me carry that. It's heavy."

"I can manage,"

"I know, but I don't want you to hurt yourself lifting it."

She brushed him off and went to pick up the strap.

She grunted and Jaune ran over there to take it from her. "See?"

"Whatever."

"You've been especially moody today. Any reason why?"

"I just feel weird. Like nothing's right."

He studied her facial expression.

"What do you mean? Is the baby okay?"

"Should be. I'm only like six or seven months in."

He sighed and helped her finish packing.

She thought is was funny how growing up alone taught her independence. But aside from her chores and missions, she had people there. Growing up without Summer to mimic gave her the chance to be herself. Whether she died or not. But Ruby thought she'd be proud of her and where she stood. Summer wasn't here to guide Ruby. And if she was, then she would've finished her job by now. Just like Qrow did. He let her go.

"You spaced out for a second," Jaune reminded her.

Ruby shook her head as Jaune finished packing the things on the airship. Grabbing her hand, he lifted her onto the platform and climbed the ladder with her. When she almost lost her balance, he caught her back and ran his hand over her stomach. To which she rolled her eyes with a smile.
