btw this whole 3rd person thing is new to me so if I write in 1st at any point, let me know
[No POV]
Phil wipes under his eyes, standing up to grab a drink of water, all the crying making him dehydrated. As he walks out, he notices Martyn letting in a woman into the house, leading her upstairs. Phil rolls his eyes, grabbing a glass when he enters the kitchen, taking a deep breath to compose himself. He's not dead, he thinks to himself. He's just not here. Not next to you. Not with you.
Dan holds the slim piece of dense paper, four photos in a vertical line of Phil being adorable, in his opinion at least. He runs a hand through his straightened hair, not noticing Charli at the door.
"Dan, you alright?" Dan's head snaps up, locking eyes with her. He wipes away the tears he didn't know were even there, nodding.
"No. Yeah? No- I mean... I'm fine." He says quickly, body shaking. Charli gets up from leaning on the doorframe to sit on the bed in front of Dan, grabbing his shoulders gently.
"Dan, you can talk to me." She gives a sad, reassuring smile as he returns the favour.
Phil fills the glass with water, gulping it down almost as quickly as it was filled. He flinches at the sound of someone knocking on the front door. He looks up hopefully, only to realise how unrealistic he was being when he sees a postman at the door, holding out the box to Martyn as he signs the form required.
Of course it wasn't going to be Dan. Stupid little Philly.
"You can go visit him, you know that right?" Dan sobs into Charli's shoulder, not remembering how they got into that position.
"Y-yeah, but Charli-" Dan breaks out of her grip, grabbing fistfuls of his chocolate hair. " I- He-h-he's not here! He's n-not next to me. I realise he's not fucking dead, but I... I-I-I-"
"You love him." Phil whips his head around, giving the woman a confused look.
"Wh-what?"
"Oh, Phil. Don't play dumb." His mother presses on. "All the signs are there, and he loves you too!"
"Bullshit." He mumbles under his breath. "Wait... What signs?"
"Well, for starters, I have never seen you cuddle up so close to a 'friend' in my life, and not to mention the fact that a little bird told me that you stood up for him when you didn't even know him. You've never done that. Social anxiety who?" Katherine tries to joke as Phil stands there in shock.
"Wait... What? Who- How... What!?" Dan takes the phone from Charli's hand. He continues to stare at the photo of him and Phil cuddled up as they sleep peacefully in Phil's colourful bed. "How did you..."
"I became friends with Chris through Alfie." She smiles, Dan raising his eyebrows in confusion.
"Let's pretend I know who that is..."
"Pj's boyfriend." Charli states simply, Dan choking on the air around him.
"Right, right yes, I know who you're talking about now." He thinks back to the vague memory of Phil storming into the house Pj had him in with someone else by his side, yelling at Pj slightly before he passed out. "But how'd he get the photo?"
"Well, he came to check on you because you hadn't been at school, so I showed him why and decided to take a photo. I did to, obviously." Phil squints at the photo, not sure what to think of the situation.
Katherine takes the phone put of Phil's hand, who now notices Martyn and what he assumes is his girlfriend standing there too.
"Hey, Phil." The girl waves as he awkwardly waves back.
"Phil," Martyn clears his throat. "We have big news for you, kiddo."
