[Phil POV]

I watch the young boy run away, leaving me confused for a few seconds. I soon process the fact that Dan's ran away as I told him the date, despite his injury and the immense pain he goes through to simply move.

This must be serious.

"Wait! Dan!" I yell, running the path he ran, recognizing the trembling voice and slender figure towering over two female women.

"Tomorrow is the date of my mother's funeral." Dan's voice wavers and breaks, as if he were crying.

"Shit." I whisper to myself as I keep walking walking towards the door Dan is slumped up against, metal plates marking '2009'

"Oh god, okay. I'll talk to the head of department. I'm sure she'll let you go," Ebony's voice echoes through the halls.

"We'll let you know when you have to be back by. In the meantime, do you know what you're going to say? Or wear?"

"Yep," Dan mutters, popping the 'p'. "I planned the speech while Phil slept and I have a suit at home that I can wear."

"Wh... What about Phil?" Josie speaks, seeming extremely cautious. "Will he say anything? What will he wear? He's attending, isn't he?" I don't need to see Dan's face to know he's panicking.

"I-I didn't plan that far, I-um haven't even spoken about it with him," I hear him sigh as Ebony and  I exchange looks, sadness playing in her chocolate eyes. "I doubt that he'll even want to come. Like, it'd be nice if he would but I don't want to force him along..." I run up behind him, engulfing him into my arms.

"I wouldn't not go to something that's so important to you. I wouldn't ditch you for anything, Dan." I feel Dan loosen up and lean back, only to tense up again instantly.

"Well Eb and I are going to check with Skye-"

"Head of department."

"Yeah that, to see if you can go out tomorrow,"

"Th-thanks," Dan mutters. I look over to him, finding him growing impossibly pale.

"Shit. Dan, let's get you inside."

"I-I don't think I-I can w-walk," Dan groans, obviously in pain.

"Okay I'm going to briefly let go, although there will be a hand behind you back at all times, so I can pick you up okay?" Dan just groans in response. "Okay, three... Two... One... Go." Keeping one of my arms behind him, I move around to Dan's front. I quickly throw my arms around his waist, pulling him in close as he wraps his around my neck tightly, grabbing fistfuls of my dark hair. I shift my arms down to his thighs, lifting his legs up. Out of reflex, he wraps them around my thin waist as I support him by carrying him mid-thigh.

"Phil?" His voice sounding groggy, as if he had just woken up.

"Yeah?" I can tell Dan is slipping in and out of conciousness by the way his head is moving. Wobbling from side to side.

"I... Lo... y..." Dan passes out. His head lays peacefully on the crook of my neck. The pain must've got to him.

I try set him down on the bed and retrieve the food we left in the cafeteria, so he has something to eat when he awakens, but everytime I set down one of the limbs on the bed, he moves it right back.

"Oh Dan, you're too adorable."
