"You'll be perfect for the one who deserves you."
R.H. SinMaria and Hotch drove back in silence as they got out of the SUV Maria turned to him and quietly asked.
"So what does this mean?" He stopped walking and sighed.
"Honestly, I think it means we can't trust your team. And we need to look into Jake Ennis." She nodded and followed him inside. The team all swarmed around the two asking what had happened, as Hotch handled all of the questions Maria made her way away from the group to get some air. She was struggling to breathe, this was too much for her. She had never been in a situation like this- what was she supposed to do? She found a bench outside and she sat down and pulled her legs up to her chest, a cold breeze whistled through her hair and sent a shiver down her spine. She ran a hand through her hair and looked around at all the people going about their normal lives, she thought about their problems- was anyone else this stressed?Maria heard a commotion and looked up to see Derek running to an SUV with Emily and Hotch chasing him, he yelled something at them before speeding off in the SUV. She ran over to the two agents, Hotch looked ready to fire Morgan and Emily looked like she was subtly approving of Morgan's actions.
"What's happening?" Hotch didn't answer but he hopped into another SUV, Emily and Maria joined him and he hit the gas pedal and put the sirens on. Through the entire journey Maria was trying to get information out of the two agents sat in the front of the SUV, but so far she had learnt nothing. They eventually came to a stop outside the Chicago FBI office, Hotch and Emily jumped out and sprinted in, Maria hot on their tail.As they made it to the area where Hotch and Maria had spoken to the team just earlier that day, Morgan was on the floor cuffing Agent Jake Ennis. Other agents were yelling at him to get off, their guns were raised aimed at his head. Derek ignored them all and proceeded to flash his badge at them and drag Jake up off the floor.
"Morgan." Hotch started, but he didn't respond he simply pushed Jake out of the office, Hotch followed. Emily quickly apologised before running out after Hotch and Morgan, leaving Maria alone. The team all crowded around her, her head which had been held high was now hung low looking at the floor. She rubbed her neck and folded her arms across her chest.
"What was that about Williams?" He unit chief Richard Harold asked her and she shrugged,
"I'm not sure, do you mind if I take a look at Ennis's desk?" She took a step towards the desk but Mariano stepped in front of her.
"You got a warrant?" Maria shook her head, "Then you can't look at the desk." Maria stepped around Mariano, grabbed the box of ketorolac and made a run for the door."Hey get back here Williams!" Mariano and Harold yelled but she ignored them and kept running out to the parking lot where there was one of the SUVs that they had come in. She hopped in the drivers seat and floored it, she put on the sirens and drove to the hotel as quick as she could, hoping and praying that no one was following her. She took a few random turns just to be sure no one was tailing her, before heading back to the hotel. She ran into Hotch's room which was the work station and handed the box of ketorolac to JJ who looked at her with an eyebrow raised.
"I got this from his desk." She said to clarify, JJ continued to stare at her in confusion, "okay, okay, I might've stolen it, well not really, but I definitely broke some rules to get it." JJ smiled at her and nodded. Maria hadn't even noticed Spencer in the room until he walked over to her and grabbed her wrist and pulled her out of the room into the corridor."What Reid?" she asked, annoyance lacing her voice.
"So what, now because you are in a gang you are a criminal? Jesus Maria- I never thought you were stupid. Prescription theft is a third class felony in states like Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Virginia. So that means that you could end up in jail for a maximum of three years and then what happens to your career, you won't be allowed to work for the FBI then. God Maria, so stupid! What the hell were you thinking?" Spencer rambled, his voice gradually gaining volume."Spencer stop." she interjected.
"No Maria, I can't wrap my head around the fact that you just committed a felony-" This time Maria spoke louder than him.
"Spencer! Shut up! For the love of God, just shut up!" he stopped talking and blushed, she knew she had embarrassed him, normally she'd listen to him rambling but not now when he is talking down to her like she is some dumb criminal. "The ketorolac wasn't a prescription. So I didn't commit a felony. If anyone did it is agent Ennis for having the ketorolac without a prescription from a doctor. What the hell has gotten into you! Why are you acting as if I have done something wrong!" She shot back, she went to go back in the room when she heard Spencer mutter under his breath."Maybe you have." She spun around on her heel and glared at him.
"What is that supposed to mean!" He shrugged.
"Well you know I have a girlfriend, but you still kissed me on the jet." She rolled her eyes, she had this rage bubbling deep within her and she felt like any second she was going to explode, but she couldn't do that know she would go and find a punching bag or some other outlet when she had gone back to her apartment."Okay, well then Spencer let me just stop you before you start throwing around wild accusations." She paused, "You kissed me, I went into the bathroom and you fucking followed me in when I had just had a fucking nightmare, which would've been fine. Except, I was vulnerable then because of the nightmare and how lifelike it was. So I was scared for a valid reason and you sauntered in, kissed me and then left. And since then, you have been treating me as if I was the bad guy. Spencer, you are the one who has moved on to someone else. You are the one who kissed me while being in another relationship. So don't you dare paint me like the villain and yourself like the victim because I have done nothing wrong." She felt the rage threatening to spill once again, but she took a deep breath. And then she had remembered what he had said after he kissed her.
"Oh and Spencer, don't ever tell someone you need them when you don't because it's fucking soul destroying." With that she walked back into Hotch's room leaving a speechless genius alone in the corridor.
