Forty seven days.
It's been forty seven days since the first day of school, the first day you met Jaeden. He's a big shot around here; everyone knows he was in It and Book of Henry and treat him practically like a God. Of course, you had to gain a crush on him, like practically every other girl in your school. There's no way he would ever take notice of you when he could have practically any other girl he wanted.
You sat in your history class, Chromebook out on the desk in front of you as you just barely followed the notes along with your teacher's lecture. Jaeden was sitting directly in front of you, next to some girl you hadn't bothered to learn the name of. It was a big class, and you had to sit in assigned seats, so you knew he didn't choose to sit next to her, but still you couldn't help but be a little bit jealous.
"Okay, I hope you all paid attention to everything you've learned in the last week, because I'm assigning you a project," your teacher announced, and you tried to stifle a groan under your breathe, "oh, and good news for you, I'm also picking out your partners!" At this, everyone audibly groaned, and your teacher laughed. What a cruel, cruel, person.
"Okay, listen up for your partners! Stephanie R. and Leah, David and Greg, (y/n) and Jaeden..." your teacher continued to trail on, but you didn't need to hear anymore than that. You were partnered with Jaeden. He turned around and shot you a smile, which you meekly returned. Great, you were definitely ready to embarrass yourself in front of him.
A minute later, everyone moved to sit next to their partners, and Jaeden came and sat at the desk next to you. Sitting his stuff on the desk, he turned to you, a pleasant look on his face.
"Hey, um, are you ready for this project?" Jaeden asked, attempting to break the ice.
"Yeah, I guess. Fair warning, this isn't exactly my best class," you said, and the two of you laughed.
"Yeah, It's okay, it's not mine either. So, I know we're not going to finish this project in class, so do you want to come to my place after school to wrap it up?" Jaeden asked, and you nodded happily. The two of you got a jumpstart on your project in the last couple of minutes of class, before heading your separate ways.
After school, you waited out front of the building for Jaeden. The two of you had agreed to walk to his house together, and finish the project as quickly as you can.
"Hey, (y/n)! Ready to go?" Jaeden asked as he walked up to you.
"Yeah," you nodded, and the two of you started walking. The walk to Jaeden's house was only about fifteen minutes, and you filled the time easily with chatter. You got to know him better, and he got to know you, which only made you like him more due to how interesting he actually was. You climbed up the stairs to his house, and he directed you to the dining room, where loads of other schoolbooks were already spread across the table, which he attributed to the fact that he had been studying before school.
You spent the next hour laughing with Jaeden, and working on your project. He was actually a very funny and nice person, something you didn't know for sure previously due to your lack of actually talking to him. All too soon, you had finished your project, both of you packing up your school supplies. As you stood up to leave, Jaeden called after you.
"Er, hey, (y/n)?" he asked, and you turned around, quirking an eyebrow at him as a prompt to continue, "would you maybe wanna hang out after school tomorrow? We could get some food or something."
"Yeah, that sounds really fun, Jaeden. I'll see you tomorrow," you answered, both of you sheepishly smiling at each other, before you left out his front door, the grin on your face seemingly permanent.
