Time moves quickly while you're engaged; all of this new excitement and feelings, all of which both Nikki and Tommy were having. 1997; Mötley Crüe had just released their new album, Generation Swine. Vince had just gotten back in the band after leaving in 1992 to do some solo stuff, and meanwhile, what remained of Mötley had hired a new singer called John Corabi. Together they released their first album with a new member, an album that didn't become really popular among fans. But after deciding that it was probably best that John and the rest of the guys parted ways, they gladly invited Vince back in the band, and now they were all hanging out in some Chinese restaurant in L.A.
"So when were we gonna get married?", Nikki asked Tommy, trying to get the Chinese chopsticks to work. "Considering it's illegal...", Tommy started, stuffing his mouth with noodles, "A couple of years". Nikki sighed, trying to get some meat on one of the sticks by roughly poking it. "You said the same thing a couple of years ago", he complained, just waiting to get married to the one person he loved. "I guess the law isn't gonna change at first, Nikki", Tommy replied, having given up on the chopsticks long ago, just eating the Chinese food with a fork. Vince looked at them eating their food, wishing he didn't eat it all up so fast. "Why did you even get engaged then?", he asked, "I mean, if you didn't plan on getting married". Tommy just looked at him like "seriously?", getting a simple shrug back from Vince. "You could just rent a priest over the internet", Mick suggested, being the only one who hadn't said anything during the rest of the conversation. The others all just stared at him. "Uh, pardon?", Vince said, not being alone on feeling confused. "It's really cheap", Mick went on, "That way you two can get married without any trouble". Nikki hesitated, finally managing to stick some food onto the chopsticks, which now looked like beef skewers instead. "I don't know...", he said. Tommy wasn't all that excited about it either. "It won't feel real, you know", he added, getting an agreeing nod from Nikki. Mick shrugged. "Well, it's your lives", he said, taking another bite of his food, "And if you wanna spend them knowing that you never got married, that's not my problem". Nikki and Tommy both looked at each other. Tommy could see by the look of Nikki's face that he was up for it. "Fine...", he said, "Now what do we do?"
At one A.M. Nikki was still up playing his acoustic guitar, simply letting his hand fall lightly against the strings. He was sitting on the side of the bed, waiting for Tommy to come back with the apple juice that was taking so long. The two of them had been living in the same apartment since 1994, the year the Corabi album came out. Their images had also changed a lot since last time Vince was in the band. They had all cut their hair – well, except Mick – and was dressing more properly so to say, as much as that is possible for a Mötley dude.
Finally coming back with the juice, Tommy sat down next to Nikki, putting his arm around his shoulders. "What took you so long?", Nikki asked, leaning against Tommy. "I had to go out and buy apple juice", Tommy answered. Nikki started to laugh. "Oh, god, you know, you didn't have to go out and buy it!", Nikki chuckled, "You could've just told me we didn't have any!" Tommy laughed as well. "Nah", he replied, "You wanted apple juice, so that's what I got you". Nikki chuckled once again, rolling his eyes. He put his guitar down, deciding that he was getting kind of tired. Yawning, he tugged his clothes off and changed into an old Mötley shirt from the Corabi tour, then going undercovers. Tommy threw his arms up. "Goddamnit, Nikki, why did I have to go get apple juice if you weren't gonna drink it?", he asked, thinking that Nikki was kind of weird like that. He just got a shrug back, simply looking at sweet Nikki closing his eyes to sleep. Tommy rolled his eyes, deciding to just go to sleep as well.
