Scandal 39 – In which her mother pays her a visit

“Welcome home, madam.” Bati ni Bert pagkababa palang ni Cassandra sa kotse, tumango siya dito at naglakad, sumunod naman si Bert sa kanya, “Mrs. Hughes have already taken care everything for the luncheon tomorrow, ma’am.”

Tumango si ulit si Cassandra at nang nasa may hagdan na sila ay humawak siya sa railings nito at nilingon si Bert, “Actually Bert, you’ll have to cancel the luncheon. I have an important meeting tomorrow.”

Dahil pinangako niya kay Linda na pagbalik niya galing Chicago ay magpapakita na siya kay Dr. Torres ay ayun yung una niyang gagawin pagkatapos niyang magpahinga ngayon. At isa pa, Anya had sent one of her entourage and informed her that she’d be coming with her tomorrow. And that woman, she held all the cards right now for discovering that Cassandra was sick.

“But ma’am, tomorrow’s luncheon is with the president.” Bert protested.

She glared at Bert, did he think she didn’t know that? It was hard to have the meeting tomorrow granted especially since President Rodriguez was a busy person. “I know that, Bert. We will just have to appease the man with campaign funds so he’d give me the approval I need to start the community center.”

Bert lips curled, “That man doesn’t need any more money, ma’am.”

She shook her head and gave him a small smile, “Bert, every politician won’t say no to money, no matter how rich they already are.” She said and climbed up.

Just as she was reaching the top of the stairs, a loud voice boomed over the foyer that she halted.

“Ma’am bawal po kayong pumasok dito.”

Dahan dahan lumingon si Cassandra sa baba ng hagdan, kahit alam na niya ang makikita niya dun ay kailangan pa niya ng kahit ilang segundo para handain ang sarili niya.

“Cassandra bumaba ka dito ngayon din.”

Tinignan niya ang inay niya, yung dalawang security ay hawak yung magkabilang braso nito, bumaba siya at tinignan ng masama si Bert. “Why is the security so lax?” tanong niya dito.

“Ma’am sorry po, pilit po siyang pumasok sa loob.” Sabi naman ng isang security.

“Unarm her. She’s my mother.” Utos niya sa dalawa, agad naman siyang sinunod ng dalawa, tinignan niya ang inay niya, “Anong ginagawa mo dito nay?”

May kinuha ito sa bulsa nito at inihagis kay Cassandra, bumagsak ito sa sahig at pinulot naman ito ni Bert at binigay sa kanya, yung AmEx na binigay ni James kay Jenny, “Kung sa tingin mo papayag kami na impluwensyahan mo si Jenny na mag-aral sa Maynila ay nagkakamali ka. Kahit anong luho ang ibigay mo, hindi aalis sa puder namin si Jenny.”

“Nay, kung gusto ni Jenny na tumira at mag-aral dito sa Maynila, wala na kayong magagawa dun.”
