For the last few days Brian was busy helping Natalie pack up her apartment, moving boxes into piles of stuff that were going out to California and stuff that she was giving away. Brian had to chuckle to himself as he thought back on the first night they discussed her moving...Natalie was so unsure of 'taking advantage' of him and his wealth that he out right laughed at her, causing her to frown heavily. "Nat...you agreed to marry me. It will be OUR stuff now. And you won't have to work unless you want to."
Brian knew that she was still struggling with all the changes that were happening to her but he just kept gently prodding her along, he wasn't going to be without them any longer. While Natalie closed out her life here in Florida he secretly planned their new life together in Huntington Beach. He wanted to make sure she knew that he was serious about their marriage and about their family so he overhauled the house while they were still in Florida and bought Natalie a Cadillac SUV, sight unseen. "I don't care about the price" he had told the salesman over the phone "Just make sure it's brand new and fully loaded. It's a present for my soon to be wife." Brian knew she was probably going to object to such a lavish gift but he didn't care...she would soon see reason and realize that he was going to spoil her from here on out.
Today they decided to take a break long enough to catch lunch with Matt and Ava who surprisingly were still together in Matt's hotel penthouse. Ava wouldn't tell Natalie much, stating she would explain everything over lunch but that she had good news and bad news to tell her.
Natalie fretted over the bad news part the entire day, fussing with what to wear and fussing with her hair so much that they would have ran late if Brian hadn't gotten Bryleigh ready by himself, leaving Natalie to concentrate on what she was doing. Brian struggled getting the cute sundress on his squirming daughter but he took it all in stride, laughing heartily when she took a clean diaper and stuck it on her head, smiling up at him. "Absolutely beautiful Bryleigh...you're the most beautiful creature I've ever laid eyes on" he told her softly before scooping her up in his arms. "Dadadadadada" she squealed happily, patting his cheeks with both chubby hands as he walked out to gather up his fiancé...just the thought of that word put a smile on his face.
Two hours later they were pulling into the parking lot of one of the classiest restaurants in the city. Natalie looked down at her engagement ring and sighed softly. As much as she was excited for the new adventures in her life as the soon to be Mrs. Synyster Gates she couldn't help but feel saddened...she would be leaving her best friend behind and that thought alone made her choke up. "Nat, what is it? You're not having second thoughts are you?" Brian's concerned voice snapped her out of her meanderings and she gave him a reassuring smile.
"Not at all Brian...I'm just not looking forward to telling Ava that we're moving all the way across the country from her. It's going to be hard no matter what." Brian knew deep down that this was a major obstacle for her to overcome and vowed to her that she could fly back and visit whenever she wanted. "I'm not going to keep you prisoner" he murmured softly against her temple, kissing her hair for reassurance. "I know" she mumbled softly, giving his hand a squeeze as they walked into the restaurant, Bryleigh babbling happy from Brian's arm.
Natalie spotted Ava and Matt right away, smiling in sheer happiness at the look of peace on her best friend's face. Brian grinned as he watched the girls hug tightly, knowing that Ava missed Natalie just as much as Natalie had missed her. It wasn't long and the conversations were flowing like mad, Ava explained how everything happened, her eyes showing an obvious love towards Matt that Brian had never seen before and damn, it looked great on both of them.
"So Todd is completely out of the picture and my father says I'm free to do as I please. We misunderstood each other for so long" Ava stated softly, taking Matt's hand and squeezing it before turning to Natalie. Natalie knew eventually they would have to reach the topic of why they were really having this get together but it still ached deep down in her heart at the thoughts of what the bad news could be.
"Ava just spill it" she stated softly, her eyes looking sad when nobody said a word. "I want the good and the bad news." Ava looked over at Matt and smiled softly, Brian had to admit he liked this soft look in Ava's eyes rather than the cynical, guarded looks he was used to seeing. "Well the good news is that now that I am free and clear of Todd and certain obligations, Matt and I are free to be together." Natalie shrieked with happiness and hugged her best friend "IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!" she laughed, wiping her happy tears away with a napkin. "But what's the bad news then?"
Ava sighed and took Natalie's hands, a look of surprise coming over her face when her fingers skimmed across the diamond on her left hand. "Natalie Johnston what is this rather expensive looking ring doing here?!" she teased in fake shock, her eyes growing wider as she looked between Natalie and Brian both. Natalie blushed and Brian chuckled, wrapping his arm around the booth they sat in. "I fucked up once and I promised on my life that I was going to make up for it...so I figured that proposing was the best way to show Natalie how serious I was."
This time it was Matt who chuckled as the girls squealed again, hugging like teenagers before Ava pulled back, her hands still on Natalie's shoulders. "Wait a minute...does this mean you're moving to California?!" Natalie nodded her head slowly, unsure of how Ava was going to take this news. Instead, Ava threw her head back and laughed, happy tears pricking her eyes. "And here I thought I was going to be breaking your heart by telling you that I agreed to moving to California with Matt!"
Natalie looked over at Matt before looking back at Ava, not believing what she just heard. Was her best friend and Bryleigh's godmother really going to be moving to the same city?! "This has got to be one of the best days ever!" Natalie exclaimed happily.
