:D
(Brian's POV)
"Aww, I love you baby," i soothed to Mckenna, hoping to calm her down and make her get over how much of an ass her dad is. "It's okay."
She looked down at the couch and said, "Can we watch a movie or something? I'm kind of tired..."
Michell stood up and said, "Of course. What would you like to watch?" She asked, clearly keeping the tone of her voice soft and soothing to cover up the anger. She was balling her fists and her knuckles were turning white. I couldn't help but agree with her.
Mckenna shook her head and looked down at her hands. "I don't know. Got anyhting horror? Or scifi?" she said.
I yawned and stretched, standing up and saying, "Well, we got some pretty cool horror shit on Netflix, you can just stream it here."
Mckenna's face lit up. "Really?! That's so cool! Can I pick something?"
I nodded and watched my two girls get the movie set up. "I'm gonna go out for a smoke," I announced.
"Wait, I thought you said you smoke in here? So I can't?" Mckenna asked.
"Well, tecnically, um..." I said, rubbing the back of my neck. I thought about how if our dad was such an asshole, and neither of us wanted to be around him... then Mckenna would have to stay here. Therefore, I would have to take care of her and watch her like a daughter.
I thought about what I would do with my child. Would I let her smoke inside? Would I let her smoke at all?
I decided on probably not. "Kenny," I said. "Give me your cigarettes."
"What? Why?!" She exclaimed. "You smoke!"
I smirked. "Not anymore."
Michelle and Mckenna exchanged glances. I reached into my pocket and pulled out my green lighter and my pack of Marlboro Reds. I looked at them for a moment and then tossed them into the trash.
"There. Now do the same with yours." I said, sounding fatherly.
Mckenna groaned, then dragged herself over to the garbage can to throw hers away. She came over and hugged me, and Michelle clapped and soon came to join in the hug.
I widened my eyes and pulled away from the hug. "The battle of the bands thing is next week! I have to round up the guys and, aww shit! Hmm, um, Mckenna! Are you gonna bring your band into it?" I asked unintentionally sounding frantic.
Mckenna just stared at me. "Um, I don't think so? Maybe.. I don't know. Why?"
I shook my head. "I don't know. Even if you're not in it, and this goes for you too, Michelle, can you guys just be there? It's kind of important.." I trailed.
Michell came over and kissed me on the cheek. "Of course, babe, anything. So, me and Mckenna were gonna watch Paranormal Activity 3. You wanna join?" she asked.
"Nah, thanks though. I'm kinda tired. I'll just go in my room... so, goodnight!" I said kindly and kissed them both on the forehead.
I dragged my feet on the carpet and as I reached the doorway to the kitchen, I decided to do something incredibly childish but hilarious, y'know, to lighten the mood. I turned around quietly and continued to drag my feet on the carpet. I snuck up behind them and touched both of their arms and they both screamed.
I ran back into the kitchen laughing.
I proceeded down the hallway and into my room. I rubbed my eyes and glanced over at my acoustic guitar. Just the sight of it made me remember what Matt had said to Jimmy right after he died.
"Sleep tight, I'm not afraid. The ones that we love are here with me. Lay away a place for me, because as soon as I'm done, I'll be on my way, to live eternally."
I picked up the black steel string and began a chord progression.
(Megan's POV)
On the outside, I was cool, calm, and collected. On the inside I was exploding, shaking and extremely excited. Me and my friends sat around the room doing work, and I was focusing on teaching myself Swedish from Google Translate.
All of my friends absolutely hated it when I spoke Swedish, because they said I was "obsessed" and that I was "American and should be proud."
I decided to break the ice with some Swedish. "Så är ni glada för att spela nästa vecka? Jag vet att jag är glad över att träffa min pappa." (Are you guys excited to play next week? I know I'm excited to meet my dad.)
They groaned and I laughed.
"Oh my Lord you are annoying! What the hell are you saying anyway?" Mery said.
I chuckled and said, "Hey! You speak Spanish all the time! So you aren't the one to talk! Anyway, I asked you guys if you are excited to play next week and that I'm excited to meet my dad."
I then recieved a pure evil glare from Charlotte, and I instantly knew what I had just done and was preparing to cover it up, but Charlotte did for me.
"Megan, stop with you're stupid stories. I'm not in the mood." Charlotte said, with her strong British accent.
"You know, I never noticed this before." Katie said. "Charlotte's from England, Mery's Spanish and Megan's Swedish. That's pretty cool if you ask me."
"Sure it's cool, but that's off subject. What did you mean, Megan, by, 'I can't wait to meet my dad'?" Maddie questioned. I laughed, but then noticed that she was dead serious.
"Oh, it's nothing, really. It's just an inside joke between Charlotte and me."
Maddie shrugged her shoulders."I guess..."
Charlotte nodded once and looked back down at her hands. I looked around and noticed it was becoming tense and awkward. I felt terrible, not telling my friends about Jimmy being my father... but for some reason I didn't want anyone knowing except for my closest friend.
I realize that this could make them angry at me, or maybe even stop talking to me, but, they could be just disapointed or sad. I mean, they keep some things from me.
And anyway, I have no idea how they would react if I told them. I want to let them find out at the Battle of the Bands, because that way, they won't know until after we play. And then, they will still play, and we have a chance at winning.
I don't know about my friends, but, I am super determined to win, because of Jimmy, erm, my dad.
I stood up abruptly and left the room, hopefully making the atmosphere a little better for them. I went straight to the basement and pulled out my Fender acoustic guitar, and played Tonight the World Dies.
"Lost the meaning of our stay,
learned to live another day,
doubt the choices that we've made,
I know that we can't hide our shame,
if only in disguise."
I sang.
All I could think about was my dad. What if he didn't know I was his daughter? What if he didn't believe me?
I was starting to become reluctant to tell him if we win, but, I made a promise to myself.
