He walked into work with a smile on his face. All because of the date with Emma they had so much in common and just got along. He had never met anyone like her or anyone he got along with in that way, it was like him and Emma were just meant to be. As cheesy as that sounded that was how it was and he was happy for the first time in years. His parents had abandoned him when he left home at 17 which was hard but it needed to be done and with no one else Emma was just the thing he needed in his life.
With that he went to check on Susan. Her vitals were good and that was a good sign but time was running out if Liz's letter was right. That made him think of Susan so he decided to visit her as he did everyday and her vitals were still going strong. He decided to tell her how the date went (in detail) and what he thought of Emma just so she knew he wasn't messing her daughter around.

Emma was wearing a black skirt and a white blouse with flat black shoes and her hair in a bun. She wanted to look professional and to make a good impression she had only been working here for two years after all and he could think she didn't want to put any effort in and fire her. She knocked on the door.
"Come in" Brian shouted. She walked in trying to not look nervous in front of the fat, greying man sat behind his desk dressed in a black tailor made suit. He nodded for her to sit. She did. "What is the purpose of this meeting?" he asked like he didn't know. "Your secretary didn't tell you?" she asked in return. "I only let them tell me what I want to hear which is who the meeting is with and when." she nodded and replied that she would like to become a part time employee as she would like to spend more time with her mother who was in critical condition and didn't have long left and to go to university in order to become a doctor.

He sat and stared at her for a few minutes to think about what she said and finally had to agree because if it was his family he would like to be treated the same but have time off as he was the boss after all and he wished her well and some luck and said her new schedule would be posted next week and to have some paid time off until then. She smiled and left without complain but not without a thank you.**Emma's pov**
She met Lucy in the waiting room. Lucy was quite distant when she wanted to be and was often quite awkward in these situations too. She was around 5'8 dresses as any 24 year old dresses and has a boyfriend and has twins; 2 boys to be exact and they were only 3 months old. So the fact she took some time out meant a lot to Emma. They said hello and caught up then went to see Emma's mum. Emma spoke first about her meeting with her boss, the good news, the date (in detail) and how she felt about Adrian. Then it was Lucy's turn. She spoke about the twins, her partner James proposing and the fact they might be moving to Australia.
Once the visit was over Emma confronted Lucy about the fact she was moving and she didn't know. Lucy apologized and said she had to go pack as they were leaving by the end of the week and she didn't want to talk to Emma anymore because she was happy and Emma was dragging her down as her mum was dying and the friendship group was falling apart with Sadie acting weird too and left. Emma was confused as that made no sense whatsoever and left.
As soon as she got home she got a bath, called Liz and updated her, tried calling Sadie without success, ate her tea and applied to York Medical School and had an early night. As soon as it turned 2am Emma awoke to a familiar sound; "mama I'm on the seventh step" as if Emma needed reminding. "Mama I'm on the eighth step" a few minutes passed and Emma was calming down when "Mama I'm on the ninth step" and Emma got dressed and went for a jog then got another shower and went back to bed.
