**Emma's pov**

As her mum's machine was switched off, she sat there numb. Her whole world had just come crashing down. There would be no more happy memories with her mum. No more meeting up for coffee on a Saturday morning before work, no more calling her for advice about a man or what clothes to wear on a date. She would never get her mum's opinion on Adrian or hear her voice again. She thought about all the things her mum would miss out on; birthdays, Christmas, her wedding, grandchildren and watching them grow up. Emma finally began to cry as she realized her mum would never be coming back. She looked next to her and saw Liz going through the exact same thing, but all she wanted to do was crawl into bed and be on her own.

**Liz pov**

Her world had just split in half. On one side she has everything; a loving husband, her dream job, dream house and a couple of children in the future.

However, the side she was currently on was hell. Her very own personal hell. The only person who was there for her when the world was against her had gone. She would never be able to comfort her ever again and now she will have to stay strong for Emma as now she only has her. "Emma" she turned to see her best friend who was currently a mess but who could blame her. Her life was over as she knew it, she was so close to her mum. "Do you want me to stay over tonight?" she hoped she would say yes; she doesn't want to be alone tonight and she shouldn't be either. "No I want to be alone" she replied. "Emma you shouldn't be alone" she replied as gently as she could. "No I'm fine" she said a little harsh but I know she didn't mean it. "Do you want or need anything right now" she didn't get a reply so she said her goodbyes to Susan and went to find Adrian to tell him the news. He soon rushed in to the room so I decided to leave and call David.

**Adrian's pov**

As soon as he heard he ran into the room to find Emma saying goodbye to her mum so he stood patiently and once she had finished and totally broke down he didn't say anything as words wouldn't mean anything right now so he hugged her tightly and didn't let go until she had finally stopped crying and dropped her off at home but she wanted to be left alone so he told her he was sorry and left. He still messaged her though and offered comfort.

**Emma's pov**

She felt bad rejecting Liz but she really needed to be on her own right now. She was also grateful for Adrian who was no doubt sent by Liz. She messaged her for a while and told her she was sorry. She would have never got out the hospital if it wasn't for Adrian. She crawled into bed and cried for what seemed like hours. Then she heard it "mama I'm on the ninth step" Emma wasn't scared tonight she had enough to deal with. "mama I'm on the tenth step" a few seconds passed and Emma decided to get a shower. She had just got in when she heard "Mama I'm on the eleventh step" Emma wasn't bothered she just wanted to sleep and plan her mum's funeral.
