The next day, I was sitting in the kitchen with my brother and step father. I picked at my eggs, I wasn't hungry or up to eating at all.
"Sadie, are you okay?" Jack asked.
"I just miss mom is all." I said.
"I'm sorry honey." He said.
It fell silent between the three of us. Alec picked up his drink and took a sip, setting it back down. He looked at me, then to Jack.
"Where's your boyfriend?" He asked.
"He's not my boyfriend."
"Then what is he?"
"Just a friend." I said. "Like the rest of them."
"But you like him more than a friend?"
"Does it matter?"
"No, just wondering."
"Stay out of my life." I said, dropping my fork on the plate. The doorbell rang. "I'll get it."
"It's probably him anyway."
I rolled my eyes, pushing the chair out. I stood, walking to the door. Richie, Stan, Bill and Eddie stood in front of me.
"We're going to the quarry. You coming?" Richie asked.
"Actually, can I meet you guys there a little later?" I asked.
"Sure. Do you know where it is?"
"Yeah, I know." I said.
"Okay, s-s-see you." Bill said.
I closed the door, walking back into the kitchen. I grabbed my plate, tossing the food and setting it in the sink.
"Why does that one kid stutter?" Alec asked.
"His name is Bill, and I have no idea. Why don't you ask him?"
"I don't know him." He said.
I walked out of the kitchen, up the stairs to my room. I shut the door and laid on my bed.
"Sadie." I heard a whisper. I looked around. "Sadie." It was coming from the closet. I stood, stepping closer to it. They kept saying my name.
I reached it, pulling the door open. I saw a figure in the darkness. I hesitantly turned on the light. It disappeared. Then I heard something drop behind me. I took in a sharp breath. Slowly I turned around, seeing my mom, but her skin was green and she looked dead. I let loose a giant scream as I jumped in my closet, shutting the door.
Tears streamed down my face as I heard the door open to my room.
"Sadie?" I heard Jack's voice. He opened my closet door, seeing me on the ground. "What's wrong? What happened?" He sat in front of me.
"I don't know." I said. "I thought I saw mom, but she was all decomposed." I cried.
"Oh honey." He said, hugging me.
"I'm not crazy." I shook my head.
"I know. You just miss your mom." He said. "Why don't you go hang out with your friends now?"
I nodded my head. He helped me out and walked out of my room, shutting the door. I wiped my face, stripping of my current clothes. I grabbed a dress and slid it over my head.
I walked out, I slid on my tennis shoes. I got a towel from the closet. I walked out and grabbed my bike, putting the towel in the basket. I hopped on it and rode into town, looking at everything paranoid.
"It was just a messed up hallucination." I told myself.
