You pace back and forth around the entrance of the small cottage you share with your boyfriend Ross and your baby. It's Christmas Eve and he's no where to be seen. He's not answering your calls, texts, and you've called all his friends, asking if they've seen or heard of him and neither of them knew of his whereabouts or heard from him. He disappeared late last night, slipping out silently around ten o'clock, leaving a trace of his best cologne near the front door. He mentioned going to a friend's Christmas get together and that he'd probably crash at his house if he got too hammered, but you at least expected him to be back by noon at the latest, and he failed to show up. And now it's nearing eight o'clock on Christmas Eve and you've heard nothing from him. By now you are way past your peaking point of worry; it's so unlike him. Ross always informs you if he's going to be late or if something's wrong, he would not leave you to be paranoid and especially since it's not just you and Ross anymore since [going on] six months ago.
Ross and you were only together for almost a year when you found out you were pregnant, something that was highly unplanned at the ages of twenty [your age at the time] and twenty-two [Ross's age]. It was something neither of you saw coming at least until you were both in your mid twenties and married. Yes, you two are in love and wanted to have babies together in the future, but it seemed too soon. You two weren't even living together yet at the time, but of course neither of you wanted to terminate the baby or give it up for adoption, so the process of your future with Ross sped up a bit. After discussing everything with your families, they helped you two find a quaint little cottage in the east coast, where you always wanted to end up. The pregnancy went smoothly with your loving boyfriend by your side each step of the way. The baby hadn't even arrived yet and he was acting like a responsible father and a great companion, making sure you and the baby was always safe and comfortable. Ross worked his ass off to pay the mortgage, baby appointments, and upcoming payments of child support. You did your best to contribute whilst being pregnant, but your pregnancy was quite a treacherous and tedious one. Nevertheless, yours and Ross's baby girl was born in June, which you two named her Everly. You two couldn't have been more happier and in love with your baby girl, excited to be new parents and young in love.
Which all leads you to now. A shallow, gaping feeling seemingly begins to form your heart, along with a wrenching stomach from Ross's disappearance. It's Everly's first Christmas and he's already starting to miss it, which you know was so ecstatic about all month. He truly is the best daddy ever to Everly and he's an amazing boyfriend, so why would he do this? Something must be terribly wrong. You check the time on your phone, reading 8:15. You peer outside the foggy window, glancing at the sparkling blanket of snow covering the ground. You decide to call the police since the paranoia is eating you alive.
"911 what's your emergency?" A dispatcher answers on the other line.
"Hi, I'd like to file a missing person's report," you say softly into the phone, making sure you don't wake the baby.
"Okay, can you please tell the person's name, a brief description, and when you last saw or heard of them," the dispatcher states."His name is Ross Shor Lynch, he's my boyfriend," you tell the dispatcher calmly, inhaling and exhaling deeply. "He's about six feet, he has blonde hair, brownish, hazel eyes, and he's twenty-three-years-old. Last night he left our house around ten o'clock in the evening to go to a friend's house for some kind of Christmas bash. He promised me he'd crash at a friend's if he was too intoxicated to drive and that'd he call me in the morning, but he didn't. You see, we have a six month old baby and this is her first Christmas, he wouldn't miss this for the world. Since I didn't get a call expected that maybe he lost his phone or it died, but I at least figured he'd be home at a reasonable time and I'm really worried something happened to him. It's just so unlike him. He's a responsible guy, a loving father, and a great boyfriend."
