It's Christmas Eve and it's your second day of winter break. You're currently getting ready for a Christmas Eve party, which your best friend Rydel's mom is hosting. You're feeling slightly more jittery and excited about this party even though it's a family setting kind of party, Rydel's mom allowed Rydel and the boys to invite friends from school. And one of Rydel's brothers has a friend who is a senior, the grade above you and he's so hot. His name is Jace and he's Ross best guy friend. You met him for the first time officially a little over a year ago, when you first began developing feelings for him. Besides his dazzling smile, clear blue eyes, and tall, toned frame, he's actually extremely charming, kind, and smart. He's everything you want in a guy, and only Rydel, and to your dismay, Ross knows about your everlasting crush on Jace. In fact, you were sure you and Jace would soon become a thing because he would flirt with you and show interest in you, until one day you go over to Rydel's house after a football game and Ross's friends are there sitting in the basement playing video games and munching on snacks, including Jace, and sitting beside Jace with no space in between him on the sofa is some thin, tall girl, and his arm is casted around her. You heart dropped once you discovered Jace had recently started dating a girl who's in college, and they are still dating.

But yet you still harbor the same feelings for Jace, and tonight you're determined to catch Jace's attention. You did your makeup precisely, following a Christmas makeup look you found online, you curled your hair, and you're wearing a dress you recently bought; it's a red velvet form-fitting material dress that stops mid-thigh and shows a bit of cleavage, and black Becca heels to match. You knew it might be a little overdressed and maybe a little too risqué for a family Christmas Eve party, but you thought fuck it, you wanted to look good for Jace and show him what he's missing.

After spending what felt like hours in the bathroom finishing the final touches on your festive, glowy look, you waltzed out of the bathroom and strutted downstairs, ignoring your family's scrutinizing stares, announcing that you were ready to go.

The drive to the Lynch's household had you sitting on the edge of your seat in anticipation, wanting to desperately reach their house and strut your stuff inside, find Jace, and casually smolder him with your flirty movements and gestures. You weren't going to act too rashly, because it is a Christmas Eve party and 'tis the season of mercy and blah blah—fuck, you shouted in your head once the car pulled up to the array of cars parked along the curb outside of the nicely decorated household, ornamented with lights and blow up Christmas figures. You practically leap out of the car once your dad turns off the engine, beelining through the lawn and around the inflatable Frosty, and ringing the doorbell politely. Your family inches up behind you as the front door whips open, showering your face with bright, beaming lights, and the aroma of Christmas scents mingling together whooshing through you. Rydel's dad Mark is at the door, adorned in an ugly Christmas sweater and a bright smile.

"Merry Christmas Eve, guys!" He beckons you and your family inside, speaking chirpily to your parents. You don't bother making polite conversation because Mark practically sees you here everyday, and instead you continue entering the house and keeping your eyes peeled for Jace, but Rydel must've spotted you because she runs up to you, crushes you in a bear hug, and screams in your ear something over the loud Christmas music.

   "What?!" You shout back.

"I said, "happy Christmas Eve!"" She giggles cheekily.

"Oh," you laugh. "Same to you."

"Damn you look hot!" Rydel gasps, stepping back to glance more at you. "I feel so weird wearing this now, but my dad and mom insisted we wear these," she tugs on the hem of her ugly Christmas sweater, closely resembling Mark's, but hers is fuzzy green with a Christmas tree decorated with little lightbulbs that actually light up.
