No One's P.O.V

Silence. Silence was all anyone of the them could hear. No one said anything as they processed what happened.

Nathan has a brain tumor.

Tears were yet to fall. Moves were yet to be made. No one knew whether the doctor was serious or not. They wanted him to not be serious. They hoped he just got a really bad migraine and the pained caused him to faint.

That wasn't the case.

KD-"Why him?"

Kayden's voice was below a whisper. His voice not wanting to work. He was confused on what Nathan had done to deserve this.

DY-"I-I'm sorry. We can do the surgery if you sign off on the papers."

Doctor Young didn't know what to say. He too felt awful about the situation. He never wanted to walk down the hallway to the little boy with dark brown hair and brown eyes' family to tell them he has a brain tumor. He would have rather take his own life then to do that. Seeing the light drown out of someone's face when hearing the news, was heartbreaking to him. An adult was easier to talk about because their situation he would tell them about. They would always say 'okay doctor, thank you and I understand'. Now when it comes to kids?

He doesn't tell them. He can't tell them. The first kid Doctor Young ever told what was wrong, cried. The kid pleaded to her dad, Doctor Young, to help her because she was scared to die. The kid was his daughter of the age 9 just like Nathan.

His daughter died a month later of cancer. He had to go home and tell his wife that the kid he diagnosed with cancer and died, was their daughter.

D-"Does he know? Nathan. Does Nathan know?"

DY-"No, he is awake now and I told him he just passed out from a headache."

David nodded his head and felt the tears build up like everyone else.

Kayden, David, Liza, and Liam all started to have tears stream down their faces, but not Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn didn't have a single tear fall. She stared at the wall with a blank expression that was unreadable to everyone.

L-"Do it."

David looked a Liza with a blurry vision just like everyone else, but Kaitlyn.

L-"Do the surgery, but I want to see him first."

DY-"Of course, he is room 412."

The doctor walked off and everyone looked at one another. Kayden looked at Kaitlyn with a confused look. David, Liza, and Liam all noticed his look of confusion, so they turned their tear stained faces towards her.

KD-"Kaitlyn, are you not even a little upset?"

Kaitlyn snapped her head out of her thoughts and looked at everyone with a blank expression, then she ran. She ran straight out of the hospital.

Kaitlyn ran into the middle of the parking lot and screamed. She screamed like her life depended on it. Tears streamed down her face as she put her hands on her head. She pulled on her hair as she screamed out from the pain in her chest. She fell onto the ground of the empty parking lot, crying. For a while she sat there crying, no one came out of the hospital and no one pulled into the parking lot. It was empty, like her heart was.

Kayden's P.O.V

Kaitlyn left. She ran out and I wanted to run after her, but Liam stopped me. He told me she needs time alone and that I can't go after her right now. So I didn't.

We are all walking down the hallway to Nathan's room. I see the number 412 on a wood door at the end of the hallway, and it hurts me to think about Nathan being in there because of a brain tumor.

I pause in front of the door, making everyone stop behind me. I slowly raise my hand to the doorknob. I turned the knob and pushed open the door, revealing Nathan on the hospital bed watching T.V.

We all shuffle into the room and Liam closes the door. My brother turns his head to us, flashing a half-smile.

N-"Hi guys."

L-"Hi Nathan. How do you feel?"

My mom walks over to the chair next to the bed, with us following her, and takes a seat.

N-"My head still hurts, but it feels better than earlier."

L-"That's good."

Everyone was silent as tears were threatening to spill from our eyes, until my dad broke the silence.

D-"Nathan, there is something we need to tell you."

N-"What is it?"

My mom grabbed Nathan's hand as tears streamed silently down her face. Nathan had a worried look on his face.

L-"Nathan, you know how you had that headache earlier?"

N-"Y-Yeah."

My mom took a deep breath then continued.

L-"Well the doctor said that you have a brain tumor."

I saw the tears building up in Nathan's eyes. He closed his eyes for a minute then opened them back up, having tears spill down his cheeks. Also causing tears to go down mine as well.

N-"Am I going to get b-better?"

L-"Yeah, yeah you will. It might just take some time. That's all."

My mom put on a sad smile as Nathan started to cry. He faced the ceiling and closed his eyes. Tears kept streaming down his face as I felt pain in my chest. I only get this feeling if Kaitlyn is upset and is nearby. I turned around and saw Kaitlyn looking through the glass window at Nathan. Tears were going down her cheeks as she watched.

It broke my heart seeing her like this. It broke me even more over the fact she couldn't even come into the room from being so upset. She just watched from a distance at her little brother crying from the fact he might not make it through the surgery. Or after the surgery.

Thing is, none of us know if he will live.

I don't know if he will.

My parents don't know if he will.

Neither does he know himself if he will.
