Chapter 37: The Beginning

Liam's P.O.V

Elliot sat in the empty chair across from one of the couches. I sat with Kaitlyn on the couch in front of him while Kayden sat on the one he fell asleep on.

I held on to Kaitlyn's hand as if I would never hold it again. It was silent until Elliot decided to break it. 

EL-"Okay first of all Liam, what the the hell happened to your body and face?"

LM-"Well, maybe you should ask our beloved father."

Elliot looked shocked but confused. 

EL-"On the phone he said you left a year after I, you know."

LM-"I didn't. I stayed and listened to our parents blaming me for every fucking thing. 'It's your fault Elliot ran away, it's your fault Claire killed herself.' Everyday. I was always here, at this house because I didn't want to go home. I didn't want to go home to be reminded of everything."

Elliot had sadness in his eyes as I said every word with venom  dripping off my tongue. 

EL-"I'm so sorry I left Liam. I really am. I wanted to bring you with me, but you were so happy. You always talked about how great being with the twins were to me. Not as much after Claire died, but I could tell you were happy with them."

LM-"Why are you here? I know dad didn't tell you I was here, they didn't know I left or where I went I bet."

I felt a squeeze from Kaitlyn on my hand and realized that I must have been tensed up again. I relaxed after taking a deep breath, waiting for Elliot to say something.

EL-"I'll start from the beginning."

Elliot paused and took a deep breath just like I did. 

EL-"I hated myself after losing Claire. I hated the fact I was the favorite and that I was always being treated better. Mom and dad didn't care that Claire died and instead of saying how awful they felt, they just said 'Elliot, I hope you do well on the test next week like you always do'. They didn't care."

I nodded my head because I knew that was a fact. 

EL-"So I planned on running away. I found a friend that moved from L.A. to West Virginia and they were visiting. I talked to the family about it, and they said I could stay with them. So I packed my things and left. I stayed with them until I turned 16. Once I was 16, I started studying to be a doctor and got an apartment. Then I got into Charleston University. I just graduated from high school and I start school there in the fall. I eventually realized, I left you alone. I left you with those god awful people."

Elliot paused once again as he looked me over with tears in his eyes. Elliot was on the verge of tears and it hurt me seeing him like this. Hell, he was my older brother. We only had each other and he left. Elliot left me alone and I can tell he feels awful about it. 

EL-"As soon as I ended the call with dad yesterday, I started to pack a bag. I bought an airplane ticket to L.A. as soon as I could. The plane took off this morning and landed not even an hour ago. Dad said you ran away and I thought with you being best friends with the twins, that they would know where you were. I started to search around on the internet to find their address and saw a video of Kaitlyn explaining things. I watched it, and maybe I cried just a little, but I found out the the two of you started dating and the video didn't go up to long ago so I figured he was staying with you guys or you do for sure know where he was."

Kaitlyn looked a little ashamed at the mention of the video, but she quickly covered it up with a half smile. 

It was silent then. Noting was heard, no one said anything, and I don't think anyone dared to say something. Not that they would be hurt or anything, just the fact they didn't want to say the wrong thing. 

It was going on for a few minutes so I decided to break the silence.

LM-"Where are you staying?"

Elliot partially laughed and ran his hand through his hair. 

EL-"Like I said, my plane landed not even and hour ago and I left this morning. So no where currently." 

I nodded slowly trying to think of the nearby hotels.

KT-"Kayden, we have it."

KD-"Yeah, they won't mind."

KT-"Yay!"

Elliot and I were sitting there so confused. They knew what one another was thinking and all they said were only a few words. 

KD-"Okay, so Kailtyn and I want you to stay here until you head back to West Virginia."

Elliot looked so confused as he looked back and forth at them. He looked at me with a 'how the hell' look. 

LM-"They know everything about each other, and every thought each one of them have. They both get the same scores on every quiz and test. They have a lot of classes together and the teachers think they cheat, even if they put one on one side and the other on the other side of the classroom."

Elliot looked stunned. These twins are awesome and he just learned they are. 

EL-"You guys are cool."

KT,KD-"Thanks Elliot Wood and we are trying to make it hard so we don't say the same things!"

Kaitlyn and Kayden both bursted out into fits of laughter as they both said the exact same thing, word for word. 

KT-"Anyways, Liam has his own room here and we have a, umm, spare bedroom that you can stay in." 

Kayden and I knew she was talking about Avery's room that got cleaned out. 

EL-"Are  your parents going to be okay with it?"

KD-"Yeah, they love Liam to death. I'm sure they won't mind you staying here if they know you guys are brothers. They are out of town for a couple weeks too." 

KT-"Yeah, I can ask them when I talk to them later."

Elliot nodded and smiled.

EL-"Thank you guys so much. And Liam, I am so sorry I left." 

I smiled a genuine smile at Elliot.

LM-"I know, but maybe I deserved this one. I haven't been home for two months and I went on vacation with the twins so."

I dragged out the 'o' as Elliot, Kailtyn, and Kayden laughed. 

It was nice to see my brother. I definitely missed him like crazy. 

Ever since the beginning.
