Chapter 34: Choices

Kailtyn's P.O.V

We all have choices to be made. We can either fight or give up. 

Nathan has a choice that needs to be made. He can fight to stay alive or he can give up. 

His heart isn't beating. They keep shocking him and they keep fighting to save his life. 

Two minutes have gone by. I want Nathan to fight his way through this, well more like I need him to fight. 

Kayden was in tears. Liam was in tears. My dad was in tears. I was in tears. Now my mom? She was on the ground crying her eyes out. I can't imagine what she is going through. It has to be worse than how we feel. 

Another minute passes and Doctor Young was about to give up until the heart monitor was very slowly beating. Doctor Young's eyes widened as he saw the monitor. He quickly put an oxygen mask on Nathan so he could breathe. 

Nathan's heart was now steady and all the nurses, including Doctor Young, relaxed. My dad pulled my mom up from the ground and gave her a hug. 

I walked over to Nathan and grabbed his hand. I held it tightly as he started to open his eyes. I looked at him with tears in my eyes as his chocolate ones looked around. 

After a minute, Nathan turns my way. He has a confused look on his face. 

N-"Why are you crying?"

I sniffled and looked at him.

KT-"You we're dead for three minutes Nathan and the few hours are over. So these are happy and sad tears." 

I gave him a half smile as he looked completely shocked. 

N-"Y-You mean I get to live?"

I nodded my head and he smiled. 

Everyone else walked over to where I was and started talking to Nathan. We all have tear stained faces, but we didn't care. All we cared about was Nathan. 

Minutes went by and we heard someone clear their throat. We looked up to see Doctor Young still here. The nurses left, but he didn't leave. 

DY-"We are going to keep Nathan here for about a week to monitor him." 

L-"Thank you so much for saving him."

Doctor Young smiled and nodded his head as a response. We continued talking to Nathan for hours upon hours. Not one of us mentioned anything about why he was here. It was nice to just talk about the great memories we've had. 

It's now 1:09am and everyone is asleep except Liam and I. I'm sitting on his lap, all cuddled up with him as he plays with my hair. 

LM-"I love you."

I looked up at Liam to find he was already looking at me. I smiled and snuggled up more to him. 

KT-"I love you too." 

LM-"This has been one shitty vacation."

A small laugh escaped my lips.

KT-"That's for sure." 

I felt a warm kiss on my forehead and smiled. 

LM-"There is something I need to tell you." 

KT-"What is it?"

Liam was now looking into space as he was thinking.

LM-"I got scholarships for football to two different schools. Even though we're juniors."

KT-"Liam that's great."

LM-"Well, it isn't all good news."

I looked up at him and I could see the sadness in his eyes. 

KT-"Liam, what's wrong?"

LM-"One is for Ohio State which is really good for football players and the other is Duke Univeristy which is also really good football players." 

My heart ached hearing that we might not be together after high school. Ohio State is obviously in Ohio and Duke University is in North Carolina. Duke University is Liam's dream college. He has always wanted to go there. He would be 2,500 miles away from me if I go to UCLA. 

KT-"Oh."

That's all I could say. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy for him. But I'm going to miss him. 

LM-"I can't make this choice. Either go to Duke, Ohio State, or go to UCLA with you."

KT-"Duke has been your dream school. You should go there." 

Liam shook his head and wrapped his arms around me. 

LM-"I don't know what I would do without you though." 

I sighed leaning into Liam's chest. 

KT-"We're juniors. We have time to figure it out."

Liam nodded his head and his eyes looked droopy. I lifted my hand to his cheek and turned him towards me. I pulled myself up, giving him a kiss on the lips. I settled back down and cuddled up with him more. His breathing starts to become slow and steady. I knew he was asleep. I looked up at his face one more time before falling asleep. Liam's eyes were closed as he looked so peaceful. 

Like I said, we all have choices to make. 

Some could be for devastating reasons or some could be for great reasons. 

Nathan pulled through for us. 

Liam now needs to follow his heart and make his choice to go where he wants to. 

It's a difficult choice, but every choice anyone ever makes is.
