Chapter 32: Can You Fix Me?

Kaitlyn's P.O.V

I couldn't go in there. I couldn't go into the room with Nathan crying. It hurt just standing outside the window looking in.

I was sitting in the waiting room by myself because everyone was with Nathan, when I saw Kayden walking down the hallway. He walked my way and took a seat next to me.

KD-"Nathan wants to see you."

A tear streamed down my cheek as I thought about Nathan.

KT-"I can't go in there."

Kayden grabbed my hand and slightly squeezed it, giving me reassurance.

KD-"Yes you can. He wants to see you before he goes into surgery."

I want to see him before he goes as well. I don't know what I would do if he dies after the surgery and I didn't talk to him. I closed my eyes shut and thought it over.

KT-"Okay."

I whispered out as I opened my eyes, letting the tears fall down my cheeks.

Kayden stood up, still holding my hand, and pulled me up to my feet. He led me down the hallway and to Nathan's room. Once we made it outside the door, Kayden pushed it open. We stood there by the door as everyone's attention was on us. My breath hitched as I saw Nathan with red, puffy eyes and tears silently streaming down his face.

Kayden brought me over to Nathan. I didn't want to say anything with everyone staring at me and it made me feel uneasy. Kayden must have noticed because he let go of my hand and told everyone to leave the room with him. They all said their last goodbyes to Nathan and left.

As soon as Kayden closes the door, I sit down in the chair next to the bed my mom was sitting in.

N-"Hi Kaitlyn."

I knew he was scared and upset for sure because he didn't call me by my nickname.

KT-"Hi Nathan."

My voice was just below a whisper as I looked at him.

N-"Kaitlyn I'm scared to go into surgery."

KT-"I know you are. I am too."

N-"Really?"

I nodded my head slowly and felt tears starting to burn in the back of my eyes.

KT-"Yeah. You're going to be okay."

N-"Promise?"

I held my breath and looked into his pleading brown eyes. I let go of my breath and nodded my head as I wiped away the tears on his cheeks.

KT-"I promise."

After a minute, their was a soft knock on the door. I looked at the door and saw Doctor Young poke his head in, giving me a questioning look. I motioned for him to come in and he walked our way. Then looked at some of the papers in his hand. He looked back up with a sigh.

DY-"It's time for your surgery..."

He said with a sad smile.

N-"Can you fix me?"

Doctor Young looked like he was about to cry. Little did I know, those were the exact words his daughter asked when she was sick.

DY-"Yea-"

He paused and cleared his throat before continuing, not wanting to finish what he was going to say.

DY-"I'll try."

I looked at Nathan as nurses started to enter the room. They started to hook and unhook things as Nathan had pure fear on his face. They gave him a shot and his eyes became droopy. I knew the meds were kicking in quickly and it hurt me witnessing it.

N-"Kaitlyn... I'm tired."

Tears burned even more as I looked at him.

KT-"I know... just close your eyes and fall asleep..."

I paused as my tears streamed silently down my face. Nathan's eyes slowly fluttered as he tries to keep them open.

KT-"I'll see you when you wake up."

I choked on my tears as he closed his eyes shut. I hope, that it's not the last time he does.

N-"I love... you... Kaitlyn."

More tears fell as the nurses give me a sign they are ready to go.

KT-"I love you too."

They rolled Nathan past me and out of the room. I stand up and cry out before crashing onto the floor. Kayden and Liam came in after I fell. They rushed over to me and bent down onto my level. I sobbed into Liam's shirt as he hugged me and Kayden rubbed my back. Liam lifted me up and I wrapped my arms around his neck before wrapping my legs around his waist. I squeezed my eyes shut as tears streamed down my face and cried onto Liam's shoulder.

He walks to the waiting room and takes a seat with me on his lap. Kayden follows and takes a seat next to us. My head is facing Kayden as he grabs my hand. I sob more and more as I grew tired.

David's P.O.V

Hours have passed since they put Nathan in surgery. Kaitlyn was asleep on Liam's shoulder in the same position they were in when they sat down. Liam was also asleep as he held Kaitlyn in his arms and Kayden was asleep holding Kaitlyn's hand.

Liza was half asleep in my lap, playing with my sweatshirt strings. I feel so bad for her. She has had to wait for so many people in hospitals. She had to wait for me when I was in a coma and she was pregnant. She had to wait for me when I passed out because I thought she died when she was pregnant with Nathan. She had to wait for Kaitlyn when Kaitlyn did what she did to herself. And now she has to wait on Nathan who is in surgery. Liza deserves so much more than waiting for the people she loves in a hospital.

We just wanted to have a vacation to get away from everything. It's like the same chapter in our lives' repeating itself.

I was lost in my thoughts until Doctor Young walked down the hallway. He had a sad and blank expression on his face as he looked at all of us. I stand up while holding Liza and walk over to him.

D-"Is he okay?"

DY-"He..."
