Nuclear Siren stared at Cyanide. Her brows furrowed.
"What are you talking about?" she asked her friend.
Cyanide sat on the floor, cross- legged, and put her head in her hands. Her body began to shake, and Siren could hear her gasping for breath.
Party looked at Siren, unsure of what to do. She looked at the others, and they were looking at her the same way.
Se walked over to Cyanide and sat next to her. She put her hand on her back, but Cyanide flinched away from the gesture, so Siren let her hand fall back in her lap.
"Hey. Cyanide." She poked Cyanide in the stomach. Cyanide didnt respond.
Siren sighed.
"Alex."
Cyanide looked up. Her pale face was red with tears. The skin around her eyes was puffy and damp.
"You havent called me that since before the Helium War." she hiccuped, still crying.
Siren put her hand on Cyanide's leather- covered shoulder. She jumped, but didnt move away.
"Tell me what happened." she said
comfortingly.
"I told you what happened."
"No, you told me the end result of what happened. How did you kill Rebel Revenge?"
At the mention of her name, Cyanide once again buried her face behind her fingers.
Siren sighed lightly and looked at the others in the room. They had moved slightly to get a better glimpse of what was going to unfold. Kobra stood behind Supernova, with one arm wrapped around her waist. Christian- Dead Eye- still stood next to the table, leaning against it. Jet Star was next to Christian, arms crossed. Then Ghoul, who had a hand on Crossfire's shoulder. Crossfire looked like she wanted to do something, but the hand on her shoulder told her not to. Lastly, she looked at Party, whose mouth was slightly open. His eyes were telling her something, but she couldnt make out what. He mouthed the words "you start" to her. She raised an eyebrow at him, and he widened his eyes and cocked his head towards Cyanide.
In a flash, Siren understood. Party wanted her to start the story. But when to start? The day Rebel was captured seemed like the best beginning.
"Okay. Cy, Im going to start from what I know. Join in whenever you feel like it, okay?" she turned from her friend, who was still hunched over, to the others.
"So basically, the day started like any other really. It was about two years ago. We had been living in the motel in Zone 5 for 3 years. We werent planning on patrolling that day, because we had a super succesful raid the previous day, and wanted a little time to celebrate.
"Around noon though, we got a SOS call from a duo of Killjoys in Zone 4. A boy and a girl, who somehow managed to fall in love while the world was going to shit. The boy had been shot in the upper arm, and the girl was the one radioing. We didnt even think twice about it. We got in Daisy and sped to their location.
"By the time we got there, the boy was dead. The girl was clutching his body like she was in the middle of the ocean and he was a life preserver. I didnt understand why. I had to pry his lifeless body out of her arms, and I got really pissed. There were still too many dracs for us to win, but we were fighting. I didnt get why she was acting like the world was over. He was dead, and sitting there wasnt going to bring him back.
"So I dragged her back to the car and shoved her inside. She kept calling his name through her sobs. I ordered an immediate retreat. We were fine until Rebel Revenge heard the girl screaming. She always was compassionate, and it proved to be her downfall.
"She was about ten yards away from the car when she began running away from it. By that time, everyone else was in the car. I remember her looking at me, her blue eyes looked apologetic. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I couldve sworn she mouthed "sorry" to me before turning around. I didnt understand what she was doing until the girl stopped screaming. She said something like 'oh thank god' and i realized that Rebel was getting the dead Killjoy's body for her.
"She threw him over her shoulder and slowly made her way back to the car. We were all still shooting any drac that we saw. But somehow, there was one we didnt see. A car pulled up right behind Rebel and pulled her inside. It drove off, with me right behind it. We followed it all the way to Battery City before Crossfire was shot in the shoulder. I made the decision to let Rebel go. She made the decision to try and save someone who couldnt be saved, and it cost her her life. But, I still had lost my best friend, so I rode out in the middle of the desert and threw the girl out of the car and left." Siren finished her story with tears in her eyes. She looked at Cyanide, who had removed her head from its bony prison.
"We figured that they wouldnt just kill her. She was a fighter, and Korse knew it." Cyanide started, voice barely above a whisper. "A little over a year after we lost her, we had a siege of a weapons factory planned out. My part was to sneak in first and put the cameras on a loop so Korse would never be able to tell who did it. I did was I was supposed to without much conflict, but as I sat there in front of all of those
computers, I saw her face in the reflection. I turned to face her, and she hit me in the face with the butt of her gun. She was wearing all white. Her eyes even seemed less blue than before!" Cyanide pulled her lgegs up to her chest, then continued. "She kept asking me my authorization code or something. I kept saying, 'Gabby its me, Alex'. Everytime I said that, she hit me again. Finally, I just said 'Cyanide Diamond'. Her body stiffened like a plank of wood. She said 'Cyanide Diamond, you are guilty of treason against Better Living Imdustries. You must be exterminated.' in this really inhuman voice. And then she aimed her gun at my head." Cyanide was rocking back and forth now, talking in between sobs. "Somehow, I got there before her. She didnt even flinch or look at the huge hole in her chest. She just stood there, eyes totally blank, for a couple of seconds. And then she fell on her back, still completely stiff." She paused.
"And then what happened?" Siren softly inquired.
Cyanide looked at Siren.
"I did what Killjoys are supposed to do. I ran."
