chapter 3: I understand...but I can't tell you why

*(Y/N)'s P.O.V*

It's been a few years since Kaname rescued me, I turned 15 last month. The funny thing is Mr. Cross insists that I call him father, but I refuse. He can be really annoying at times, but he's a smart man and he gives really good advice...sometimes.

Yuki tries to get me to open up and tell her about my past, she told me hers -- or at least what she could remember but I don't think I'm brave enough to tell her without breaking down and I do not want that to happen.

Zero is distant as always but I feel like he can relate more than anyone else, he of course hasn't told me his past but I can see it in his eyes, the pain that he has endured. So far nobody knows what I am, but at least I'm safe from turning into a level E because I drank that woman's blood. It's weird though I don't feel like an ordinary Vampire - it must be my imagination.

A knock on my dorm door brought me out of memory lane, I shook my head "come in" I said quietly with my signature monotone voice, yes I forgot to mention that my past had made me somewhat cold, I care but I don't show it.

Yuki walked in clumsily "a-ah, (Y/N). You're awake! Good, I just wanted to tell you that school will be starting soon so you might want to get ready" she said a slight blush covering her face, why was she embarrassed? It's not like this is the first time we talked...or she talked. I nodded and stood up, she walked out and shut the door behind her. I sighed and pulled out my black uniform especially made for the day class, and laid it on the bed and walked into the bathroom to do my business.

I walked along the halls of Cross academy making my way to my first class before the bell rings, my two daggers hiding themselves in my boots, the vines around the handle that were just wide enough for my hand to slot in had thorns all over it digging into my ankles but I eventually got used to pain and didn't bleed, thank god though otherwise the night class students would go crazy.

That's the funny thing actually my blood still smells like that of a human. Anyway, the small ruby's in the centre of each dagger sat secured in the vines. All that could be heard in the hallway way the sounds of my slightly high heeled shoes against the floor, my eyes widened and I turned around quickly to stare down the long corridor. I narrowed my eyes and sighed "I know you're there, you might as well come out" I said, and out came--

Yuki, she looked at the ground fidgeting "was I that loud?" she asked "no, in fact you were very close to silent but...nothing gets past me" I replied with a shrug, she stared at me for a little bit and a smile made it's way onto her face "wow (Y/N), this is the most you said in one conversation" she giggled lightly.

 I simply shrugged once more, turning around and kept walking "well are you coming? or do you want to be late?" I asked her, she gasped slightly and ran to catch up with me "hey (Y/N)?" she asked, I grunted and glanced at her "I know you won't talk about your past but... I just wanted to know- you and Kaname- what?" she was having trouble wording the sentence, but I managed to catch on.

"He rescued me just like he did you, from a group of vampires, I was fighting and winning but they came at me all at once and I know my fighting abilities are extreme but even I knew that I couldn't take on 11 vampires at once, one of the vampires got a taste of my blood and went crazy and went to attack me, but something was off.... he was a lot stronger then he was just moments before he tasted my blood, it's like just one drop gave him and extreme power boost, so before he could bite me...Kaname saved me"

 I explained, Yuki was walking beside me with her lips parted in shock "wow...that was intense" she said with  breathlessly, I chuckled slightly and shook my head.

We had finally made our way to the classroom and just in time too because the bell had just rung, Yuki waved at me and went to sit in her seat beside her friend...what's her name? Never mind, I went to take my seat beside Zero and he was actually here for a change!

He glanced in my direction and nodded, I nodded back, this was convenient because before I got paired to sit with Zero I was paired with the class president and he kept going on about Ruka, and the guy behind kept flirting even though I was clearly not interested, plus Zero and I (including Yuki) are both guardians so we see each other, plus the fact that we were technically raised together.

I heard Zero grunt in pain, I turned to look at him and I noticed his eyes were red...ugh! now? He stood up and stormed out, I sighed and followed him but before I left I saw Yuki about to get up but I turned to look at her and shook my head, she pouted and sat back down, the teacher was so used to Zero storming off that he didn't even care anymore.

I raced down the halls following Zero's scent, I made a sharp left and him sitting in the corner grasping his throat, I walked over to him but he glared at me as if saying "stay away". I brushed it off and crouched down in front of him "I understand" I said, his glare intensified "h-how could you possibly understand" he hissed "I understand...but I can't tell you why" i whispered, loud enough for him to hear.

His breathing evened out and he let go of his throat, his eyes turning back to their normal lilac colour "what exactly are you (Y/N)?" he asked, I just stood up and walked away, not answering his question but before I was out of his hearing range I whispered "...a monster" and jogged back to the classroom.

*Zero's P.O.V*

"...A monster" I heard her whisper before she jogged away, what did she mean by that? She can't be like me, her scent is different so what exactly is she? I stood up and walked to the hallway staring at where she ran off to, "(Y/N)...you certainly are a mystery" I muttered as I walked back to my dorm, not bothering with the rest of class...or school for that matter.
