The Song That's Not

Music cutting through
Says what words cannot
Words cannot describe you
But I use words a lot
But I make music too
And it's music I like a lot
So in order to describe you
I wrote a song, except it's not.
It's some words just in a rhythm
That only I know how to read
I could put music with them
But I like to keep them freed
I know it's a simple deed
But it's simply all I've got
And since words are all I need
Here's the song that's not:

I knew you were the love of my life
When you sang me that pretty song
You had me on edge like the edge of a knife
And so I began to sing along
I fell in love like I fell asleep
I made you promises I loved to keep
And still when you're ninety years old
I know you'll have a heart of gold
And still when you're in the grave
I'll still love you for the love you gave

You're the reason
I love the seasons
I love summer and spring and winter and fall
If you're with me then I love them all
And you are why
I do not die
When I wake up and think about the hopelessness of my life
So thank you

I know you can't help
That I ended up loving you
And even though you said you love me too
I cannot help
But wonder at how you love me too
When I'm like a lemon and you're like a strawberry
And I'm viewed by women as stuck up weird and eerie
And you're more beautiful than a sugar plum fairy
You're so good looking it's making my eyes teary

I'm just so glad
That we've found each other
To look cute together
To sit together
To sing together
To write together
To love together
Life's so much better
Now that you and I will never be undone

I promise you
you are
too good for me to ever leave you
You ease the pain
Erase my scars
And those words in a rhythm's the best I can do
To tell you how good you are.
