Chapter 11

In the few seconds that it takes to open a door, my heart was instantly a bowl of soup that flooded all the way to my feet.

Boss was standing next to the white board that Clear was using just a few hours ago, and was analyzing the algorithms he (obviously) believed were tied to the riddle. With a caution as apparent as my fear, I crept around Boss, hoping to the Lord above, that he wasn't gonna put two and two together. As I was walking through the back to grab some coffee that Boss brews in the morning, I thought about my clock in. I set my stuff down on the cot near the door and slid behind the counter that hid the punch in, grabbed my card and CLICK!!

The Cringe that went down my body, spine, and soul, almost made me puke. I replaced the empty slot with my card, only to turn to Boss watching me from the front of the counter.

"Whatccha doin there, Gemma?" He asked me cryptically, watching me from over the cup of coffee in his hand. If this were an anime, I would be sweating the fucking Niagara Falls right now. I really like this job, it's fun and easy money, plus I love seeing those little kids come in here to harass Boss. What are their names anyways?

"I-uh, hgn... I was clocking in Bossman, how was your night?" I stammer for a second, only to recover, convincing myself, I can get through this! I go to the back again and try my damnest to act like I always do in the morning, and slouch a bit and stretch my arms above my body and crack my back by bending backwards. He followed me, swirling his coffee in his cup and looking at me like he knows, "It was okay, you know the usual. Going home, seeing the misses, watching the news about some sort of community violence about a gang." Casually said while refilling the coffee, that was slowly being drained by the two of us.

"Which one this time?", I ask while taking the cup of Joe he made for me.

"Something about a gang, some sort of cats I think."

My blood ran colder than I thought it would ever run, and almost spat out my coffee. I set down my cup, went to the computer and looked up the local news reports. "When did you hear this?" I said while rapid fire trying to find something, and going to type in a date. "Obviously last night, because you asked about my night. Keep up Gemma." He said while leaning on my chair, looking over my shoulder to see my frantic hands at work on the keyboard.

Finally I found it. And I wasn't happy with what I saw.

Tony's, a newbie to the Violent Cats, shirt was torn in multiple places, the largest had his major organs spilling form a large slash in his abdomen. My eyes started to water when my eyes traveled up towards his face, someone had scooped his eyes out and rested them in his hair, stuck his tongue out and stitched it to his chin. Above him his small and large intestines were stapled into the wall he was propped up on, 'I told you to be ready Gemma.'.

Behind me I could hear Boss throwing up in the back, but I could feel anything, couldn't think. I was numb, Tony is dead. Someone completely massacred the poor 25 year old, who was just looking to make a quick amount of money and get of this island and go do something with his life. I had told him that this wasn't a type of business you want to be in, but he said it'd only be until he had $20,000. I offered to just hand it over to him, but he was a great kid that was raised correctly and said that he wanted to earn it. And he did, he was suppose to leave in six day.

I shook away my shock and started to read the article, it said that the Violent Cats picked a fight with another group, but that was the exact opposite, we kind of kept the peace by intimidation. I continued to read the horrid article saying that we were axe murders who murdered the innocent, and how Tony was a psychopath that was planning on going after the unsuspecting community.

I didn't know that my life would do a 180 flip in just a late morning.

But I knew that whoever did this, was going to be in worse condition than Tony.
