As she kept whisper-yelling at me about going to that dumb party, I kept glancing over at Athena. She sat in the afternoon pinkish sunlight pouring through the school's musky windows. Every time she looks up from her notes she softly bites down on her pencil eraser just to look down again and have her glasses fall just slightly forward.
Julia: creep...
My SL: Hey! I'm just, thinking...about what Ryan said.
Lies. I was thinking about going to that party just to see her outside of school. Is she shy, or does she let loose and drink to her heart's content?
Nah, if she did drink like a frat kid she wouldn't say she's going to only check up on her brother.
For once my inner voice was right. She didn't seem like that kind of person, to risk everything just for a good time.

And of course, when we get to his car Jani is there too texting in the front seat, her eyes burning through the screen as she bites the inside of her cheek.
Jani: Jesus, you only took forever!! Ares has been up my ass about that kid for hours. Saying crap like he crossed the line or whatever! Get the fuck in before I tell Ryan to leave without you.

Julia: What do you mean I crossed the line? And who the fuck is Ares??
Ryan: Eh, he's our cousin. VERY overprotective of ahem...family.
I could see Ryan's face drop as he mentioned it and realized-

Jani: Let's just fucking leave before he shows up. You'll see enough of him tomorrow when he knocks the shit out of you.
With that we all climb into the car only to pass the big brute himself with his angel of a sister sitting idly on the sidewalk reading a book.
How the hell are they related?
My concious took the thoughts right off my hands before I could express it to Julia. She just stared wide-eyed at the both of them as we passed. Ares cradling a pour obviously uncomfortable sophomore in his grip, and Athena sitting on the curb patiently for his brother to finish his fondling.
The whole ride back home was silent. Ryan asked for only my address. Does he think Julia and I live together? As the thought crossed my mind a sharp precise voice cut through my ears.
Jani: Don't forget about the presentation Monday. We're not failing because you decided to get drunk off your ass during that damn party.
