You began getting ready at 7:30. You took a shower, did your (h/l) (h/c) hair, shoved your nervous ass into a nice pair of jeans and your only v-neck, a comfortable (f/c) shirt. You considered putting on makepu, but then decided not to, despite Peggy's insisting that there was no harm in a little mascara. She shut up pretty fast after you showed her your seventh-grade school photo, in which you had done your best to look pretty.
"And this is why haven't worn mascara since," you giggled. Peggy laughed with you.
"It's also why I'll never have a boyfriend."
Peggy shot you a look. "Oh, come on. I'm sure you will eventually."
"And what about you?"
"Oh, I'm sure I will eventually, once I'm not quite so invisible."
You laughed. "My invisibitlity is a blessing and a curse. It keeps me from getting noticed, but it also keeps people from seeing the real me, which is definately something they need to be protected from."
Peggy rolled her eyes. You knew that she didn't agree, but apparently she just didn't know you well enough yet. You weren't a very likable person.
You glanced at the clock. "Oh, shoot-I have to go," you said, grabbing your keys and bolting out the door. "Have fun without me!" you called.
"Make sure you don't drink too much-I want stories!" Peggy called after you. You made a mental note to keep that in mind. You were forgetful enough sober.
The four men were waiting for you when you arrived at the main floor of the dorm building. Lafayette had a devilish look on his face-you could tell right away that he was the mischeivous, flirty type. Hamilton had obvious bags under his eyes, reminding you of your brother. If he was anything like you predicted, he was funny and determined, although he let his ambitions pass sleep on the list of priorities. At least, that was how your older brother was. And, as for Hercules Mulligan... he still scared you just a tiny bit due to his sheer size, but his expressions seemed to tell you that he was sweet on the inside. His eyes looked kind. These were the kinds of things you caught onto after years of observing from the shadows... from the background.
And Laurens. Ah, John Laurens. You hardly even looked at him, although you wanted to so badly, because every time you did, your stomach dropped, and you knew that if you looked at him long enough, the intuitive-looking Lafayette or Hamilton would catch on, and their taunts might actually give you a heart attack. If at any time or in any way Laurens discovered the flutters your heart made every time he smiled, you would hide in your room for the rest of your life and never come out for embarassment.
"Hey, (Y/n)!" Laurens called. "So glad you could make it!" You felt like passing out, or squeeling in a very undignified way, or both.
"Hi," you replied, pulling your brown purse closer to your body. You smiled and tried to keep your hands from fidgeting. Damn, he was cute!
You noticed Laf watching you all too late.
"Oh, uh, looks like my car is full, mon amis," he said, shrugging. "Laurens, could you drive our dear new friend (Y/n)?" he said, a mischevious glint in his eyes.
"Oh, uh... sure," smiled John, and you told yourself that you were imagining the light dusting of pink on his cheeks.
Shit.
How were you going to survive a car ride alone with him if you couldn't even stand with him for five minutes with THREE OTHER PEOPLE there without havin 72 internal explosions?!
As you walked out with him to his car, you looked over at Laf, who was getting into his car. He raised his eyebrows twice in a flirty sort of way. He knew what he'd done.
Damn you, Lafayette.
