As she uttered her name the two Beavers dropped to their knees. She giggled lightly, it sounded like the gentle tinkling of a wind chime.
"We've waited so long." Mr Beaver said as they stood up. "Can we just say what an honour it is to meet you."
"Thank you, dear Beavers." She smiled at them. She then turned to the Pevensies.
"I must also thank you. Your arrival released me from the witch's spell." She looked at her dark hair. "Almost."
"I'm sorry, I don't quite follow." Peter said as he looked confusedly at his sisters and the beavers. A sudden cracking sound urged Evangeline to stop him.
"We must hurry."
"What?"
"He said winter was almost over." She explained. You know what that means... No more ice."* * *
They all made it to the river which was already melting, high above it was a frozen waterfall.
"We need to hurry!" Peter called.
"Don't beavers make dams?" Lucy asked.
"I'm not that fast, dear." Mr Beaver answered.Suddenly the howl of wolves could be heard behind us.
"They've found us." Evangeline whispered.
Mr Beaver began stepping onto the ice, testing it with his tail. Peter grabbed Lucy's hand and I followed Susan.
"If Mum knew what we were doing..." Susan began.
"Mum's not here!" Peter cut her off.
"Oh no!" Lucy called as she looked up to see the wolves at the top of the waterfall. They clambered down the slope and cornered us.
"Put that down, boy." Maugrim growled as he stepped closer. Peter had unsheathed his sword as one of the wolves held Mr Beaver to the ground.
"Someone could get hurt."
"Stay away, Maugrim." Evangeline stepped forward, drawing her own sword. The wolf showed signs of surprise only briefly before snarling.
"Miss Evangeline. Long time no see." He barked out a laugh as she gritted her teeth.
"Leave now while you can, and your brother leaves with you." He said as he took another step forward.
"Stop, Peter! Maybe we should listen to him." Susan cried. Evangeline still stood beside Peter, both of them had their swords raised.
"Smart girl." Maugrim chuckled.
"Don't listen to him, Peter." Evangeline said, as Mr Beaver yelled in the background.
"All my queen wants is for you to take your family and go. Give us the girl. She is no concern of yours." Evangeline growled at Maugrim and Peter extended an arm, pushing her further behind him. She looked up in surprise and felt her cheeks heat up.
"What's it going to be Son of Adam? I won't wait forever. And neither will the river."
"Hold onto me." Peter ordered as the frozen waterfall began to crack. Seeing what he was going to do, Evangline stabbed her own sword into the ice, just as Peter did.Once Peter, Susan and the Beavers finally clambered off their piece of ice, Peter lifted up Lucy's coat, looking at it in surprise.
"What have you done?" Susan cried, looking around at the choppy waters for any sign of her sister. Peter looked up at her shocked.
"Lucy! Lucy!" They called.
"Has anyone seen my coat?" Peter and Susan spun round in surprise as they watched Evangeline retrieving her sword from her piece of ice and then helping Lucy stand up. She wrapped an arm around Lucy as she guided her over to her brother and sister.
"Thank you." Susan said as Peter wrapped Lucy's coat around her.
Evangeline nodded.
"I don't think you'll be needing those coats anymore." Mr Beaver called. All six of them began walking forwards info the forest. The trees still had snow on them but the branches were flowering. Evangeline rushed forwards and placed a hand on one of the trees that had pink blossom on it, laughing happily.
As they walked further into the woods the snow began to disappear until eventually they made it out of the woods and into the green area where many coloured tents decorated the hills.
Evangeline danced ahead, feeling a blissful sensation that she hadn't felt in so long. She paused beside a blossom tree and the Pevensies and beavers stopped, watching as she placed a hand gently on the trunk. The blossom flowers left the branches and danced in the air until they formed the shape of a woman. Lucy smiled as the blossom lady brushed a soft hand against her cheek, giggling softly. Evangeline looked at the two older children and noticed them smiling at her also.
She then began to walk forward, further into Aslan's army.
