im evil AND im late to meet ellie at the bar to take her out shopping. let me drive without texting, okay?I placed my phone in the cup holder before turning the key in the ignition of my car. Holden responded, but I ignored it as I began to drive. I glanced down at the time periodically to see just how late I would be, and hoped that Ellie had gotten caught up with something as well so she wouldn't be upset with me.
I got to the bar in under ten minutes, and as I pulled into a parking space on the street, I saw Ellie standing by the door, talking on the phone. She looked over at me as I parked and waved before locking the door to the bar. She made her way to my car and got in, still talking on the phone.
"Yes, I just locked up," Ellie answered and laughed quietly after a moment of silence. "Yes, she finally got here," I inaudibly apologized as Ellie looked at me and she waved it off, a smile on her face. "I'll be home later, okay? Yes, Peter," Ellie started to whisper and I raised an eyebrow as I started to drive again. "Stop it, you're such a tease," I fake gagged as I drove and Ellie laughed a loud at my action. "Look, Quinn's gonna kill me if we keep talking. I love you, babe. Bye-bye."
"Is that what having a sex life is like? Stop it, you're such a tease! Hehe," I held back a laugh as I glanced at Ellie who was sending me a glare.
"Shut up, it's not my fault you live in Virgin-ia," Ellie sent me a sly smile and I rolled my eyes at her before laughing quietly. "You might not be a virgin, but you are seriously deprived, my friend. Holden's an idiot, you need to be fucking guys."
"You're a pig," I told Ellie and she shrugged her shoulders before pulling her legs into the seat, criss-crossing them. I never understood how she did that, her legs were so long it seemed they could go on forever.
"Maybe so, but I'm a happy one."
"I am perfectly happy!" I told her, shooting her a look of disapproval. She gave me a look back and I sighed quietly before looking back at the road. "I saw Holden," I blurted out as if I couldn't keep it locked away any longer. I didn't mean to keep it a secret from her or anything, but I didn't know how to bring it up casually.
"What?" Ellie yelled, which made stifling back a laugh a struggle. "When?"
"A couple days ago," I told her, shrugging my shoulders as if it weren't a big deal. "We... bought a tree."
"A couple of days ago?" Ellie continued to yell, completely taken aback. "Quincy, you're such a bitch! I can't believe you didn't tell me! You bought a fucking tree together? What?"
"And... he might've accidentally stayed all night," I glanced over at Ellie to see her eyes wide and I bit my lip as I looked back at the road. "But not like that, we just fell asleep. When we woke up we were sort of... tangled up, but nothing happened. I meant to tell you, but I didn't know how to bring it up and, I don't know, I didn't think it was a huge deal at the time."
"You... fell asleep together? You've seen him... you guys bought a fucking tree together. Oh my god, what else could you have possibly done? Make pancakes in the morning?" I got quiet and Ellie gasped, which I reacted to by scratching the back of my neck gently. "You made pancakes with him?"
"Yes...? It was casual, Elle, he even talked to Andy on the phone right in front of me... completely casual." I had never lied to Ellie in my life, but it was finally happening, and I was doing a lot of it. While it wasn't casual to me, however, it had been casual for Holden, so I wasn't entirely lying.
"Well... uh, how was he?" Ellie said, calming down a smidgen.
"He was good, really good. He completely surprised me... I didn't know he would be coming. But before we talk about how things were and everything, I should probably also mention that-"
"You kissed and it wasn't casual at all?" Ellie asked, rushing her words as she predicted what might've happened.
"What? No, no," I said, laughing as I shook my head. "I... saw his parents."
"Oh, my god. That's worse, Quinn!" I rolled my eyes at how dramatic Ellie was being and I looked over at her, giving her another one of my looks. "I can't believe you didn't tell me this while it was happening."
"I haven't seen him in years, Ellie! I was having a good time," The car became silent and Ellie sighed beside of me. "I had a really good time."
"That's all that matters," Ellie told me and as I glanced at her, she was giving me a small smile. "So he's still with Andy?"
"Yes," I told her, and made an effort not to seem upset about the fact. I was barely accepting that I might actually like Holden, so I wasn't about to let Ellie, of all people, think that.
"Does Andy know he spent the night?" Ellie asked and I shook my head as I kept my eyes on the road. "Does Andy know who you are in relation to Holden?"
"I have no idea," I told Ellie honestly, I had gathered that Andy knew who I was, but I had no clue what Holden had told her about me. "Probably not."
"Doesn't seem very casual to me, Quincy May."
"Well, it was," I lied again and breathed in deeply as I saw the mall come into view. Thankfully the bar wasn't too far away from where we'd be shopping. "I can't believe you waited three days before Christmas to shop for presents."
"I do better under pressure," Ellie told me, but I knew that wasn't true; however, I let it slide. "I couldn't think of anything to get Peter until yesterday, but now I actually have a plan, so I'm motivated. You think you could help me wrap prezzies tonight?" I kept my eyes from rolling as Ellie used her favorite word: prezzies.
"Sure, darling, I have all the time in the world for you," I found a parking space and as we got out of the car, I met Ellie on the other side of the car. "Don't you have sexy time plans with Peter tonight or something, though?"
"Sexy time plans? Jesus, Quinn, what is wrong with you?"
