Chapter 27

The testing is starting to annoy me a lot. I want to murder everyone on this ship! They have shocked me and tested me in every environment and have taken multiple blood samples. I finally wake up when Perseus comes to my rescue. "Why am I always the one rescuing you?" he asks helping me walk slowly to the door. "You are so out of it, what did they do to you?" he asks as I lightly hit him in the arm.
        "Just get us out of here," I reply in pain. We limb over to the docking bay to meet up with Blue Beetle, Impulse, and Beast Boy while everyone else is already out cold. "Little brother, one way or another I'm putting you back on mode," spoke another beetle, Black Beetle. "You are of the Reach and cannot escape it," he points at Blue and then Blue goes crazy. I was going to join the fight, "Hold up, you're in no condition to fight," hisses Perseus going around, dragging me with him. We all manage to get into the bio-ship, leaving Blue Beetle behind otherwise we would drowned, but we mange to pick him up and get back to the Hall of Justice. Everyone is super out of it, especially Megan, who apparently took down Aqualad.
        Things are in total chaos, to make things worse I have been a lot weaker lately, maybe from being captured, maybe I just need a holiday, I don't know. Impulse hasn't looked me in the eyes lately and Perseus is also on edge for some reason. There have been a bunch of missions but I have been more focused on finding out about the Fang's plans. Since basically every base but the Watch Tower is destroyed I'm using the Batcave. I feel really alone, Artemis is gone, Aqualad killed her, Wally is still probably mourning her, Megan has been in a shut down state lately, Dick is in a panic mode because of the missing team and the fact that Beetle is working for the Reach now, Alfred is still busy keeping up the missing Bruce Wayne image, most of the Justice League are on trial, I'm not too comfortable with the newer team and to make things worse the only one who is sticking around is Perseus. I mean what is with this dude? I just got to know him a few weeks ago! Agh this is so frustrating and stressful. Perseus comes into the bat cave with some food when my computer went off, I have found Nia.
        I look at Perseus and we both bolt out of the cave and head for the far side of Gotham. "You sure you want to come with me? The Fang's can be very....deadly," I say as we keep going.
        "Trust me, I have gotten to know you quite well over these few months and I know you don't plan to come back alive do you?" he scolds, reading right through me, of course. "I'll be honest, I think my time is up. Karma thought the curse was going to effect the people around me like it did to him. I did some research, it turns out the curse works in a lot of different ways depending on the chosen one," I laugh bitterly as we continue in silence. We arrive at the coordinates only to be surrounded by Fang's, I'm not surprised at all to be honest. I left notes at home for everyone, maybe I'm being selfish? They say when someone dies, its not the victim that is in pain, its the people they leave behind. "Well sister, nice to see you again," greets my sister with slight disgust. My mother steps out of the shadows, her heels clicking dispute her walking on grass, which makes no sense but go with it. "My dear daughter, it seems that Karma is no where near Earth to protect you. A little birdie told me that you are not well and your time is almost at an end," she laughs.
        "Shut up, that birdie is wrong," I retort confused, no one knows that I'm close to my end, not even Dick or Megan. the only one who might know is.....Perseus. I turn and look at him in confusion. "That's right, Perseus is not who he claims to be," laughs my sister flicking her wrist to reveal my brother, Zeke in the place of Perseus.
        "What the hell??!" I scream backing away from him as he looks at me with an almost apologetic look.
        "Perseus is Zeke! He has been the whole time, its funny how a bit of illusions and fake powers can trick the team into thinking he was an actual hero that cared for the team, his goal the whole time was to kill you," explains Nia and it all starts to add up, when he left me behind in that factory, when he slapped away that water! He was trying to kill me but never could go through with it. Why? I start to get nauseous again but I push that to the back of my mind. "Wings!" I yell flying up and I start to fly in the direction of the nearest Zeta tube when a kunai clips my wing. Well isn't this deja vu? I think to myself as I hit a tree branch and fall to the ground. I get up wobbly and get ready to fight. I am truly alone, arn't I? I drop my defense and get to my knees, I'm tired of running from my tainted past. I'm tired of losing people I love. I close my eyes as it start to rain, oddly enough I stop right by a cliff. I hear muddy footsteps get closer as I prepare myself, sorry Karma, guess this is it. I'm sorry I couldn't beat the stupid thing that hunts chosen ones. I await the slice of a sword when it never came. All that came was the warm blood that touches my face.
        I open my eyes to see Zeke above me taking a hit for me. His side was dripping with his blood as my mothers flares her eyes in hatred at him. "What are you doing? Stand down right now Zeke!" she demands as my sister stands at her side.
        "You are doing the wrong thing. Just seeing the other side has changed me! That team I joined, they would all die for each other! They are really like family! They all love each other and they fight for what they believe in like Kate does! You fight to make people miserable, you murder for amusement!" he shouts and I look at him in shock. That small amount of time that we spend together changed him that much? I get to my feet and stand with him. "What do you even stand for?" he hollers getting down on one knee.
        "Zeke..." I smile proudly hugging my big brother. I am now proud to call him that. I then also fall to one knee, that kunai was laced with something, I can't move. "YOU B**CH!" my mother yells livid pulling a sword out from one of her body guards holders and charging at me. Zeke embraces me in a hug to block the blow that never came. Nia stood before me and my mother. "Nia not you too!" she screams blowing up in purple flames and lodging the sword right through Nia's stomach. It continues to pour down as Nia speaks, "K-kate, you followed your own path t-that we w-were to scared to p-pursue. L-little sister I am sorry for betraying y-you when I wa-was suppose to protect you," she gasps out as blood gushes from her mouth. Nia then grabs my mom and jumps of the cliff with her and the last thing we hear is my mothers cries.
        "Little sister, fight this curse," whispers Zeke falling over. I rush over to him and check his pulse to find nothing. Dick comes rushing over in the rain. "What happened?" he demands shaking me slightly. He pulls out the letters that I wrote when Aqualad, Wally, Tigress and Megan come out of the tree line and I get in a defensive stance. "Calm down," says Wally and I look at him like he's crazy.
        "Dude you're telling me to calm down while you stand next to the murderer of your girlfriend?" I yell shaking like crazy until Aqualad comes to me and gives me a hug and I just stand there paralyzed in shock. "Please forgive me," he whispers and Megan shows me the whole thing in my head, the fight, the fake death, the plans and the light. I cry into his shoulder thankful that none of it was real. Then I send Wally and Dick into trees and then I hug Artemis half to death. "YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO GET ME KILLED AND PULL A STUNT LIKE THAT AGAIN I WILL KILL YOU ALL MYSELF!!" I cry as Artemis pats my back and the boys stand to the side afraid I might send them into some more trees.
        "Promise that we will not do this to you again but we need to get you into character," says Artemis and I look at her in question.
        "There is a summit going on in a few hours that Erika Fang is suppose to attend but now that she is dead you will go in her place," explains Dick as I nod and go to hug them all again. I end up putting in hair extensions and hearing some heels and surprisingly enough I look a lot like my mother this way, now all we have to do is crash the summit.
