The scarlet Phoenix

Chapter 24

After the last big Krolotean raid things have been hectic. Everyone is hunting down all the other Kroloteans that are still on Earth and I think Megan, Conner, Beast Boy and the scientist are back on Earth. Megan interrogated on that was captured and we got information about a island where the Kroloteans were told to meet up. Now Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, Batman, Lagoon Boy, Aqualad, Megan and Martian Manhunter and me are heading to the island, I'm also glad to get away from Perseus because he is like the most annoying human being ever! I have been back for awhile now but I haven't seen or heard from Artemis, Kaldur or Wally. Like are they in retirement? Whatever I have to get into focus for this mission, after I finish my motion sickness. "Remember this is primarily a recon mission. We want to discover all we can on the Kroloteans invasion strategy before we shut them down and deliver them to the Green Laturn Core," informs Batman.
        "Approaching drop zone Beta," announces Dick as Aqualad and Lagon Boy jump down into the water. Next was drop zone Gama, they pull the whole Bat thing and totally take down the guard without making a sound or alerting anyone. This is why I like to work with the bats, Karma is so careless he usually ends up giving up our position and we have to end up fighting our way out. We all get inside undetected, or so we thought when the fighting starts. I come down landing on top of some guards and end up with hand to hand combat. I flip a dude over my shoulder and block a laser with his body while Batgirl trips some of them and they fall off the platform. Aqualad and Lagoon Boy come out of the water after being shot at and take down those guards. I was fighting one of their machine things, "shadow slice," I whisper cutting it into pieces and landing in a crouch. After Aquaman goes flying one of the guards catches my attention, they seem to be stronger and more in control of the situation. "Fire fuse!" I yell creating a huge explosion that sent them flying. They look in my direction and freeze up right away.
        "Manta to all troopers end game," they say over their com but I couldn't hear the rest because I was dodging loud explosions. The way this person moves, I'm guessing a guy because of the build and voice, seems familiar like I have fought this person before. "Who are you?" I ask sending a huge rock at him. "That is none of your concern," he said retreating slowly, "I suggest you get out of here now."
        That statement took me by surprise and he uses the opportunity to hit me with a blast and I slide backwards and he starts running fast. "Requesting back up they are attempting to escape," I say over the coms hoping that someone will come. I was distracted and one of the robots hit me in the back sending me into the wall. "I am so going to feel that tomorrow," I groan not bothering to get up because Wonder Women, Wonder Girl, Superman and Superboy burst through the wall. I rub my head and get up slowly when I hear Superboy yelling, which is normal but this was different, I could sense something was off.  "None of us wanted to believe this? How could you betray us? How could you do this is Kate?" hollers Conner bringing me into this for some reason. This can't be real, can it? No way he would never!
        "YOU DARE QUESTION ME???!! AFTER YOU LET TULA DIE? AND DON'T BRING HER INTO THIS!" he screams pointing at me. My body feels numb, I should have known I meant nothing to him. He still cares about Tula, that kiss five years ago was merely nothing. "That was a mission! Aquagirl knew the risks! No one," Dick was cut off by Lagoon Boy who went off about something of the king's enemy but I was zoned out. "Do you mean the king that hid the true identity of my real father?" he sneers sending shivers down my back, this was not an act he is way to cold to be acting right? I don't know anymore.
        "It was my judgement Kadur'ahm no one else needs to suffer for it," says Aquaman trying to reason with him.
        "All will suffer if Black Manta decides it. Blood is thicker then seawater," he says sending a missile at us but I was too in shock to move to Superman blocks it. I snap out of it and try going after one of the ships that was trying to escape but Dick stops us. "Negative we have a bomb down here alien tech. I cannot disable it. All squads evacuate o the bio-ship now," he commands.
        "You heard Nightwing move!" yells Batman and we book it out of there. We get the ship and I almost punch the Kroloteans on board who were actually Megan and Martian Manhunter. We try and escape the blast range but we end up getting hit and I hit the roof and to no one's surprise, Aqualad is not there to catch me. I also have a major case of motion sickness and it's taking a lot to not loose my lunch. We finally get Superman back and I was on the floor groaning. "What the hell was that?" I ask tiredly.
        "The Kroloteans were clearly trying to build a new ship," starts Megan.
        "They had to Angel Fish. It was they're only way to leave Earth without their original Zeta platforms or ships," adds Lagoon Boy as I attempt to stand up only to admit defeat and stay on the floor. "But was Aqualad helping them escape or luring them into a trap?" questions Super Girl. "The bomb was of alien origin yet the Kroloteans clearly knew nothing about it so where did it come from?" asks Dick putting the pieces together. "I have a feeling that it might be up to you and your team to find out," says Batman ending the conversation.

Elsewhere no one P.O.V:
        "Congratulations Black Manta you have done well," smirks Erica Fang as Vandal Savage takes over.
        "Good morning Black Manta, the Krolotean's competitor and our new partner is quite pleased with your efforts and so is the light. We all made the right choice choosing you to replace poor disgraceful Ocean Master. You are officially one with the light," finishes Savage.

Back to normal P.O.V:
      
         We were all on a beach, it was time to say goodbye to the seven that went missing for those sixteen hours five years ago, which includes Karma. I hate to admit this but I'll miss him even if he did just drag me around the world. This is the worst day ever! I'm losing a mentor and Kaldur, to think tings would be so different when I got back. "Hey," says Karma awkwardly.
        "Hey," I reply bluntly.
        "I know we don't really do the cheesy I'll miss you and stay safe stuff but don't worry we'll be back on Earth before you know it," he said with a cheesy smile putting his thumb up. I sweat drop, at least he's trying. "I know you'll be fine," I cough awkwardly when he pulls me in for a hug. "I mean it be careful and watch out for the curse, it could happen at anytime and to anyone," he whispers. We break and head over to Batman, "be careful," starts Dick.
        "I was about to say the same to you four. I fear we leave the more dangerous tasks here on Earth," admits Bruce.
        "We'll manage," reassures Dick as Green Lantern says its time to go.
        "May the gods be with you," is the last thing Wonder Women says before they are sucked into a Green ship that Green Lantern made. They head off and Perseus comes out of the mountain with a lolly pop in his mouth. "What's up with you people?" he asks and I just spin around and hug him ignoring the tension in his body and slowly he hugs back, stay safe Karma, if you get yourself killed I will bring you back to life and murder you myself!
