I'm feeling really left out right now! And what's worse is Wally is in the same boat as me! We both got left out of a mission because we knew Dick's past and it involved the circus. I got so bored that I bought a fidget spinner I do get why people think this thing that rotates on a point is so cool and why it was the biggest trend for awhile. Why? I have no clue. A small bird flew in when no one was paying attention and dropped off a small letter and then when up in smoke. I open the letter quietly and it read; Come to Santa Prisca or we'll tell the world your little secret about your team. What will the world think when they find out they are letting spies into the League? ~Mother.
I crumple the letter into my pocket and look back at the TV before anyone notices what was going on. "The Justice League was formed for two reasons, first as an acknowledgment that no signal individual no matter how powerful can solve all the world's problems alone and seconds to uphold the values of truth, liberty and justice that last one's even in the name," smiles Superman making the grand speech to announce the new members of the Justice League, "these five heroes have sworn to uphold those values," he said as the camera shows the newest members. I saw Karma there as the announce the whole league and I notice he was winking at some fan girls and I sweat drop. "I'm glad they didn't kick Billy out," said Wally chewing an apple, "and I love the fact that there is a ten-year-old on the league," he said oblivious as ever.
"There is?!" questions Rocket, our newest member. What did you think that only the Justice League gets new blood? Wrong we got Rocket. "Way to keep a secret genius," hisses Dick elbowing the red head in the side.
"Hey she's on the team now right?" he defends continuing to chow down on his apple.
"Superman is now handing out official League memberships starting with Doctor Fate, The Atom, Plastic man, and Icon," reports the reporter as I spun the fidget spinner.
"I mean I was the one who convinced Icon to become a superhero in the first place I should be outside celebrating not hidden away in here," rants Rocket as I mentally agreed with her.
"Welcome to our world," said Aqualad.
"Well I guess there is an upside," she said sending shivers down my spine. What was this feeling? I have the sudden urge to punch something. "Finally Green Arrow welcomes his former protege Speedy now know as Red Arrow to this roster of heroes," said Cat Grant.
"Way to go Roy!" cheers Wally.
"At last he has finally gotten his wish," spoke Aqualad with his same composer.
"The first of us to make it," points out Robin.
"No one will call him a sidekick anymore," I said agreeing.
"Wait since when is being a sidekick a bad thing? You sidekicks were my inspiration. Especially Phoenix tho you are kind of a sidekick to Karma," she said.
"It's complicated he's my uncle," I reply rosy-cheeked from the compliment and my weird feeling from earlier disappearing. "Well you see six months ago," starts Dick and then his watch rang. We got an alarm for a mission. To be honest this fidget spinner was no longer satisfying me and I was itching for action since last mission I basically did nothing.
"A-are y-you sure it's her? I mean are you absolutely positively sure?" stutters Artemis clearly nervous and anxious.
"See for yourself this is the security footage from the Nashville regional airport. Facial recognition confirms that Jade Nguyen but you've seen her without her mask, you too Phoenix what do you think?" asks Dick.
"It's Jade, Cheshire," we both reply.
"Agreed but focus on what she carries. Is that the case you saw in New Orleans? The one that got away?" interrogates Aqualad. "Yes."
"Okay, I'm guessing from the mug shot that this Cheshire is the bad guy but what's so important about that case?" asks Rocket. "Remember the Injustice League?" I start.
"And their giant evil plants? Uh yeah," she sasses.
"The team and the League have them imprisoned but their allies still scheme and whatever is in that containment case seems important to their plans," I say thinking of my so-called 'siblings.'
"We had a chance to grab it in New Orleans but someone screwed up," Wally said with poison dripping from his voice and he glares daggers in the back of Artemis's head. "Approaching Cheshire's jet," gasps Megan, "looks like there were no survivors," she said as we look down at a crashed jet that lay motionless in the snow. We went down and try to find anything that wasn't destroyed. "How come Homeland Security and the NTSB aren't all over this?" asks Wally as I still play with my fidget spinner, this thing was freaking addicting.
"Because Cheshire's identity was a League alert authorities didn't pick it up and her jet didn't follow its flight pattern and the jet flew under the radar literally," informs Dick, "but the Watchtower auto tracked the jet and recorded the crash."
"Then why isn't the League here?" questions Rocket like a newbie, I love newbies they need everything explained.
"Because our mighty Boy Wonder has some great hacking skill and managed to get the alert first," smiles Zatanna.
"And because Cheshire and that case represent unfinished business," I say cracking my knuckles.
"Where are the bodies?" asks Conner chucking a piece of metal away and I threw my shuriken at Cheshire, what its ninja reflex. "Here's one and it is stunning," she said blocking with her sword and I scowl, this was a trap and we fell right in. "I am flora not fauna and am foliate not trees what am I?" Riddles the Riddler snapping his fingers and poles pop out of the ground. (I have never used like half of those words so sorry if they aren't spelled right) "Cmon you can get this I am shrubbery, not grass what am I? I-," he repeats himself.
"Am Bush," I finish realizing how much trouble was about to start up.
"Didn't you think that we would be tipped that you were on Cheshire's trail? We're tired of your interference kiddies this is the end game ordered from above and executed by their master strategist me," he brags.
"Miss Martian is everyone linked?" demands Aqualad.
"Yes."
"GO!"
Everyone went in different directions, Zatanna starts up a snow storm when I was kicked from behind. I did a handstand and flip over and land to see none other than Zeke and Nia. "Us fighting? Nothing new, mom made us all the time. But this time we won't stop out of pity," snarls Nia as I got in a fighting stance. A red disk hit me from behind and starts electrocuting me. Dick came to my rescue and kicks the masked person who fired it. Aqualad got the disk off me but before I could thank him my jacket was engulfed in black flames and I was forced to take it off and fight in my tank top. I know smart, best day I could have possibly worn it. "SB YOU'RE FLYING!" Robin yells but I was too focused on the opponents in front of me. Nia came for a kick and her leg turned into a rocket that I dodge. "Wait illusions! How do I fight them off though? I have no clue what to do, not to mention I freezing to death as we speak!" I think to myself well try but everyone can hear me. "Focus Phoenix!" they all scold.
"Frozen bees!" I yell creating little ice bees from the snow and they attack Nia and Zeke. They both back up towards a huge pile of snow that came crashing down and before I could think straight I was charging at them and tackling them out of the way. My leg was caught under the snow but not broken luckily. "Why?" they both question.
"You are my somewhat not really backstabbing family, that being said I don't want you dead because you could be on my side! Join the team, join the heroes! You don't have to work for the Fangs's, mom doesn't need to control you," I basically yell out of anger and frustration considering the fact that I was laying in a pile of snow in a tank top and my uniform won't regenerate until I transform again. "There she goes trying to make us see the error of our ways," laughs Zeke as both he and Nia disappear into the snow but not before Nia said, "you win this time sister but we will capture the famous Phoenix."
"Are you hurt?" panics Robin as everyone ran over.
"Nope just stuck and cold," I reply with a smile putting them at ease while Zatanna melts the snow and Aqualad picks me up for no apparent reason. "You'll catch a cold," is all he said as he carries me to the ship, I was no longer cold, in fact, I was burning up. We get back to see a fuming Barman and deadly Karma and I got the shivers again, this is probably bad for my body to go through all these temperature changes. "Does this sound familiar, you hacked League systems, disobeyed protocol and endangered your lives and your actions resulted in the capture of three escaped felons proving Warden Strange runs Belle Reve as a cover for criminal activity, well down," he smiles and all the color left my face and Karma came over. "Don't stop breathing kid you look like you might pass out or pee yourself," he jokes and I punch him into the wall. "And then there's this, biotechnology integrated with some kind of nanocircuitry," he said ruining the moment. "Though I have no idea what it is," sighs Icon inspecting it.
"We'll take it to the watch tower for further study," he said as Karma limps over and stick his tongue out before going. "You realize we were set up," said Robin and we all got serious again.
"Yes Cheshire and Riddler were 'tipped' and ready for us," agrees Aqualad as I change back to just having my mask on so my clothes would regenerate. "Not the mole thing again," grunts Artemis and I was on high alert because I was one of the primary suspects for reasons my team may never know. "Mole thing? Again?" questions Rocket looking at us surprised. "We had Intel that there was a traitor on the team," I inform.
"Mainly Artemis, Megan, Phoenix and me," points out Superboy starting to get pissed as usual.
"It's more complicated than that but your behavior lately does concern me. Your attack on Mammoth almost got Phoenix and Artemis killed," accuses Aqualad and I look down at my leg that could be broken right now.
"There's something I need to do, something I need to tell you. Last month, on Thanksgiving, I went back to Cadmus and found a few things out. When I was cloned only half of my DNA was Superman's the other half was human and that's why I don't have never will have full Kryptonian powers," he fesses up but Robin was unconvinced.
"You sure? Because you sure seemed to have them today."
"I have been using these, shields, they suppress my human DNA. The flight, the heat vision but I think I also get angry well angrier. I'm sorry," he apologizes.
"Where did you get those?" inquires Aqualad with a brow raised.
"From my human father, Lex Luthor," he said and my jaw drops, I thought my mom was bad.
"Lex Luthor is your dad?" I say shocked. This was turning out like that Darth Vaderr and Luke Skywalker moment but Superboy still has his hand. "He's summoned me to Santa Prisca," he finishs and no one moves or even speaks.
"Um listen Superboy is not the only one suffering from bad DNA. My mother is Huntress and ex-con the rest of my family not even ex, my dad is Sportsmaster and he's sending my sister Cheshire to fly me to Santa Prisca," Artemis sighs.
"That's why," realizes Wally.
"Yeah I was so desperate to make sure that none of you found out," she starts and I knew the feeling, was I going to tell them before it was too late? "I knew. Hey I'm a detective but it never mattered, you aren't your family you one of us," he said glancing in my direction and I swallow a hard lump that forms in my throat. "So who's next?" jokes Wally.
"I am," I said with a dry throat.
"I swear I was kidding," said Wally with his hands up in defeat.
"Where to start?" I take my mask off, "I am Kate Fang fourth in line to take the leadership of the Fang family," I say and Rocket couldn't hold in a gasp. "I'm sure you know the notorious Fang family and what they are all about but let me start by saying that even though we are known for assassination I have never gone through with it. I grew up with my sister and brother and it turns out that my six-year-old sister is not six, in fact, she is like twenty. I have been deceived for about my whole life when one day I snapped and escaped and then Robin and Batman found me and took me in. I joined the team and you all knew me as the new Scarlet Phoenix, not an assassin and it felt so good that you were not scared of me and that you did not shun me," I admit with tears starting to escape my eyes, "I have been summoned because they want to reveal my identity to the world and have the Justice League dragged down because they let me into their ranks," I sniffle and Aqualad scoops me into a hug. "Who cares on what the world has to say? You are not Kate Fang you are Kate of the Justice League and your bloodline will not change that fact," he said and we stayed in that embrace until Dick took a picture then it got awkward. "Okay drum roll for the next in line who is," said Wally starting to tap his legs and Megan interrupted him, "me."
"Oh cmon!" he pouts.
"Queen Bee has been blackmailing me and she wants me in Santa Prisca too," she almost whispers.
"Blackmailing how?" asks Aqualad.
"She knows my true Martian form," she said sadly.
"Bald Megan who cares?" said Dick and he was right no one cares, I mean if someone did they would have a problem with Caillou. She turns into this giant white creature that did not look normal, maybe it looked normal for Martians I don't know. "I realized that you would never accept me if you saw what I really was," she said covering herself with her hands.
"Megan did we really seem so shallow?" inquires Aqualad.
"I couldn't take the chance being a white Martian among the green was, I endured constant rejection I couldn't face that from,-" Conner cut her off.
"From me?" asked Conner and they had their moment. We set up our plan and now it was time for the action. I ninja appear in front of my mother, Zeke, and Nia, or as the world knows them as The Fang Founder, The Black Fang, and Crimson. "Nice of you to show up, it's been while," said my mom starting a casual conversation.
"Damn ninja's always unnoticeable. Anyways looks like we're all here," announces Lex Luthor.
"What do you want us to do?" asks Artemis with attitude.
"You three follow me," commands Sportmaster and I mentally stuck my tongue out at him but obey.
"What about Superboy?" asks Megan playing her role well too.
"He'll be fine he simply requires a few adjustments," said Queen Bee and I wanted to punch her so bad but that can wait. Artemis fires an arrow at Mammoth and green goo shot all over the place and I didn't move, not yet. "Sorry dad I wanted to play you like you tried to play me I can't let them mess with Superboy's head," she declares and I still didn't move because Megan had this covered. She lifts Artemis to start then shoves Queen Bee into a tree and Artemis fires another arrow almost hitting Sportsmaster. Superboy went for Lex Luthor but Mammoth got to him first. "Show your loyalty and take them all down," demands my mother and I sent her flying into the air and she lands with a loud thud. I slice Zeke's arm before he backs away and sent Nia into a tree.
"I'm done taking orders from you," I snarl and then I was knocked back into a tree but Nia who teleported or should I say used her powers to conceal her presence. "Fire funnel," I yell aiming for her but Zeke counters with his own flames. I round house kicked Nia and then swept the feet from under Zeke but my mother came back and lands a lucky punch. I wipe away my bloody nose, "water whip," I say as the whip curled around my feet and I back away towards Robin and Zatanna and then there were like ten Robins. "ONE WAS ENOUGH," I yell over the guns and dodge a flame wave attack that Zeke produces and then Nia used her powers and another snake was wraps around my leg, "YOU HAVE A WEIRD OBSESSION WITH SNAKES!" I yell unsure where to fight because they were all invisible to me. "Kate now!" Commands Aqualad as I yell, "Wings," and flew up.
"What are you running away?" taunts Nia and then her Zeke and mother were knees deep in mud, well at least I thought so but it turns out that Nia was an illusion but she left Zeke and mother behind much to their displeasure. An idea hit me in the head and I summon a vial of clear liquid and put it all over some senbon and through one in Zeke's and mother's arm. Without an antidote, they will not be able to use their powers. "This is the same as last time just you're at the disadvantage," I taunt before they pass out.
I tie them both up and head back to see the others victorious. "Damn you caught two of the main Fang family members single-handedly? You are a dangerous opponent," complements Rocket.
"Today has been a good day."
