Chapter 26

        Things have been difficult to say the least. Let's just say that I have taken some time off after what happened. I haven't really slept, eaten or done anything in about a week. Bruce and Karma aren't here to scold me and Alfred is busy keeping up the Bruce Wayne image while Dick has been super busy with the team lately. So right now I'm lying in my bed staring at the roof, we have become very good friends the roof and I. A knock on my door makes my break the intense staring contest we were having. "Seriously get out of bed the team is getting really concerned and you're going to die in there," yells a voice that actually shocks me, it was Perseus. I though he would be the last person to actually care. "So?" I huff crawling back under the covers, its been a week since the incident yet I have still yet to cry. I don't know why. He finally gets fed up and breaks the door down and comes in ripping the blankets off my body. I just lie there, I really could care less.
        "Oh my lord, it could have been anyone but nooooo Nightwing demanded I get you back on your feet," he huffs picking me up.
        I teleport back into bed and ignore him. "Look Kate death is a natural thing. We can't prevent it, especially in this line of work," he says and tears actually start to form in the corners of my eyes as I look at him whimpering. "What?" he asks clueless and the seal bursts and I full out start crying on the bed. "Ahh wait! Stop that! Um have a tissue," he panics running around the room. He stops running around and then pulls me into a hug, which I don't refuse and I sit there crying for a good ten minutes. He hands me a glass of water but then slaps it away from me, hesitantly. "WHAT WAS THAT FOR!" I yell still crying but now anger was mixed in.
        "That was um really old water and it's bad for you," he explains as I sweat drop and wipe away the last bit of tears.
        "Tell anyone I cried and you're dead," I threaten heading for a shower, it has been a week. I finish shower and Perseus yells from the other side of the door, "One of your friends is having a party or something a rather today and they all want you to go," he announces and I hear him leave. I change into some jeans and a black shirt with a white pull over sweater. I drag my feet out the door and teleport over to the store real quick to buy something for the party which I'm assuming is Rocket's shower for her marriage. I totally saw this one coming. Marriage. That's something that Wally and Artemis will never get to do now. I push that stray thought away, if I don't I might start crying again. I enter a wine shop when a sudden nausea hits me and I have to lean on a shelf for support while my vision dances for a few seconds. I finally regain my senses when I start coughing up some blood. I shrug it off and continue to get some wine, I'll be honest I don't know what gifts you usually give and kitchen supplies are lame so, \__(-_-)__/
        Anyway, I head over to the restaurant (Perseus left an address.) Everyone was already seated and smiling when and came around the corner and their smiles falter slightly. "Come sit Kate," insists Canary as I take a seat beside her still staying silent I gave my gift to Racquel.
        "You guys shouldn't have," says Racquel.
        "Actually its from Artemis too. We bought it together," she smiles sadly as we look at the empty chair.
        "What am I doing, having this shower. H-how can we celebrate so soon after,-" Megan cuts her off.
        "Because Artemis would want us to celebrate."
        "She'd kick our butts if we didn't," adds Zatanna and a small smile makes it to my face.
        "To absent friends," we all toast, there was a feeling in my stomach that we were not safe here but I ignore it and try to focus on the soon to be bride. My gut feeling took over and I create a barrier around us all. "Wow good reaction," compliments Canary as we all change. The fight was short considering there was one enemy.

Unknown P.O.V:
        Guilt fills me up, yet this is my job. Why is it so hard with her? I have done the same thing a million times over. I huff in annoyance as a familiar presence appears behind me. "How is it going?" the female asks as I turn and face her icy cold blue eyes.
        "It's not done, but she is getting weaker, I think the curse is taking some sort of effect on her," I reply with close to no emotion, even though it hurt me a lot to say. "That is great, mother will be proud that a new chosen one will arise soon," she chuckles icily, fading away into the darkness. What on Earth have I gotten myself into?

Later, normal P.O.V:
        I was in the cave chilling again, things have been some what calm. A loud explosion interrupts that thought and I run out of my room to see Perseus get thrown into a wall. "Fire Tornado," I yell taking Icicle Jr for a spin. I go for hand to hand combat with a girl I didn't recognize, she had a tiger look. I start by sweeping her feet from under her and send her into the wall when a blonde girl hits me into the wall. Its one of the terror twins, this is bad. I hit her with heavy electricity and back up just in time when Icicle Jr tries to freeze me. I take a good look around to see that Nightwing, Beast Boy, Impulse, Perseus and Superboy were all down for the count. There is only Beetle left. "Raging waves," I call throwing a bunch of bad guys around the room. "Stand down," yells Aqualad coming in. I get into a defensive stance. "This battle is over," he declares and I bite my lip in distaste. "I don't think so traitor," yells Beetle getting ready to open fire.
        "Rethink beetle, this is the same type of bomb that obliterated Meleena island and I am holding down the dead man's switch if my thumb comes off this button for any reason Mt. Justice falls," he threatens and I hope he is bluffing. I don't back down, this is up to beetle. If he  thinks we can take him I will fight along his side. "We surrender," he says putting his hands up in the air. I glare at all of them.
        "I know you won't risk them so go peacefully," he says as I punch the wall with such force that it creates a huge dent and then I put my hands up. "Wise choice," he says as the girl that looks like a tiger puts a shock collar on me.
        "I'm fine by the way," huffs Icicle Jr coming down.
        "Good then escort Impulse, Beetle, Beast Boy, and Phoenix to the flyer," he commands and I start to panic.
        "What about these three?" asks the tiger girl.
        "As hostages here they have value. But Nightwing is an ordinary human, Superboy a human-Kryptonian hy-bread and Perseus's power is no mystery neither category is of interest to our partner," he states coldly as Dick stands up.
        "Aqualad you will regret this," he screams as Aqualad walks over to him.
        "I believe I have outgrown the name Aqua lad as well anything resembling regret," he punches Dick and I attempt to run back and help Dick but Icicle Jr had enough of my resistance. He shocks me, "KATE!!" yells Dick as I'm forcefully pushed away, still awake but sloppy.
        We get outside and then Beetle has and outburst and I use this chance to try and take down our captors. I shock the collar with such force that it circuits out, "Shadow scythe," I yell facing tiger girl. I attempt to slice her down when I notice the switch was dropped. It was a bluff. I get mad at this, how dare they? I kick the tiger girl to the side when Beetle went down. "You were always so stubborn," scoffs Aqualad walking up to me and I try to slice his head off but he blocks with a shield. I back up, "Fire furry," I yell creating a huge blaze of fire that was met with ice. "You're out numbered sweetie don't make this hurt more then it has to," says the terror twins as the tiger gets behind me and kicks me into Aqualad and he uses a needle to put me under.
